4. Setup and Measurement

Follow these steps for accurate blood pressure measurement:

4.1. Using the Arm Cuff

  1. Connect the Cuff: Insert the air plug from the arm cuff securely into the air jack on the main unit.
  2. Position the Cuff: Put your arm through the cuff loop. Ensure the cuff is placed firmly above your elbow, approximately 1 to 2 cm above the inner elbow joint, or about half an inch away from your wrist bone if using a wrist cuff.
  3. Secure the Cuff: Close the fabric fastener firmly around your arm. The cuff should be snug but not too tight.
  4. Body Posture: Sit upright with your feet flat on the ground. Your arm should be relaxed and supported at roughly chest level.
  5. Start Measurement: Press the START/STOP button to begin the measurement. The cuff will inflate, and the reading will appear on the display after deflation.

4.2. Using a Finger Clip Monitor (if applicable)

  1. Attach to Finger: Simply clip the device onto your index finger.
  2. Body Posture: Keep your feet flat on the ground and your arm roughly at the level of your chest.
  3. Readings: The device will pick up vibrations from your blood vessels and convert them into digital readings. Some devices may beep or vibrate once the reading is complete.

4.3. Using Smart Watches (if applicable)

  1. Fit on Wrist: Ensure the smart watch is fitted firmly onto your wrist.
  2. Body Posture: Sit upright, with your feet flat on the floor and your arms at the level of your chest.
  3. Measurement: Smart watches often use Pulse Arrival Time (PAT) to estimate blood pressure. Consult your smart watch's specific instructions for initiating a measurement.

5. Understanding Blood Pressure Readings

Your blood pressure monitor provides two main readings:

  • Systolic Pressure (SYS): This is the upper number in your blood pressure reading. It represents the pressure exerted on your artery walls when your heart beats and pumps blood.
  • Diastolic Pressure (DIA): This is the lower number in your blood pressure reading. It represents the pressure in your arteries when your heart is at rest between beats.

Both readings are measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg).

6. Important Considerations for Accurate Readings

To ensure the most accurate blood pressure readings, please observe the following:

  • Avoid smoking, consuming caffeinated beverages, or engaging in strenuous physical activity for at least 30 minutes before taking your blood pressure.
  • Ensure your bladder is empty before measurement. A full bladder can lead to inaccurate fluctuations in readings.
  • Rest for at least 5 minutes before taking a measurement.
  • Take measurements at the same time each day for consistent tracking.

7. Maintenance

Proper care and maintenance will ensure the longevity and accuracy of your blood pressure monitor:

  • Cleaning the Monitor: Clean the monitor screen and main unit with a disinfectant wipe or a soft cloth dampened with a disinfectant solution. Allow it to air dry completely.
  • Cleaning the Cuff: Before cleaning, disconnect the bladder, tubings, and any microphone components from the cuff. The remaining fabric part of the cuff can be washed with a mild detergent solution. Ensure all parts are thoroughly dry before reassembly and storage.
  • Storage: Store the device in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and humidity.
