2. Product Features
- Automatic Changeover: Seamlessly switches from an empty service cylinder to a full reserve cylinder, ensuring uninterrupted gas flow.
- Visible Indicator: Features a highly visible full/empty indicator to signal when a cylinder needs refilling.
- Built-in Back Check Valve: Allows for the safe removal and refilling of an empty cylinder while the reserve cylinder remains operational.
- Adjustable Pressure Setting: Provides flexibility for various LP gas appliance requirements.
- Kit Inclusions: Comes with a mounting bracket for easy installation and a plastic cap cover as required by RVIA standards.
- Safety Features: Incorporates an Excess Flow Device and Overpressure Protection Device for enhanced safety.
3. Safety Information
WARNING: LP gas is flammable and explosive. Improper installation, use, or maintenance can cause property damage, personal injury, or death. Always follow all local codes and regulations.
- Ensure all connections are tight and leak-free. Perform a leak test with soapy water after installation and whenever cylinders are changed.
- Do not use open flames to check for leaks.
- Always turn off cylinder valves when the RV or appliance is not in use or during travel.
- The built-in back check valve allows for safe cylinder removal, but ensure the primary cylinder valve is closed before disconnecting.
- The Excess Flow Device limits gas flow in case of hose rupture or accidental disconnection.
- The Overpressure Protection Device limits environmental propane release in case of regulator malfunction.
- This regulator is designed for outdoor use and must be installed with the vent opening vertically down.
4. Package Contents
Your Cavagna Automatic Changeover LP Gas Regulator Kit includes:
- 1x Cavagna Automatic Changeover Regulator (Model: 52-A-890-0006C)
- 1x Mounting Bracket
- 1x Plastic Cap Cover
Note: Pigtail hoses for connecting to LP cylinders are typically sold separately and may be required for a complete dual-tank setup.
5. Setup & Installation
- Mounting the Regulator: Secure the regulator to a stable surface using the provided mounting bracket. Ensure the vent opening is facing vertically downwards.
- Connecting Pigtail Hoses: Connect the pigtail hoses (not included) from your LP gas cylinders to the "IN" ports on the regulator. Tighten all connections securely.
- Connecting Main Gas Line: Connect your RV's main LP gas line to the "OUT" port at the bottom of the regulator. Use appropriate thread sealant for this connection.
- Leak Testing:
- Ensure all appliance valves are closed.
- Slowly open the valves on both LP gas cylinders.
- Apply a soapy water solution to all connections. Look for bubbles, which indicate a leak.
- If leaks are detected, close the cylinder valves, tighten the connections, and re-test. If leaks persist, consult a qualified technician.

6. Operating Instructions
- Selecting the Service Tank: Rotate the black lever on the top of the regulator to point towards the LP cylinder you wish to use as your primary (service) tank.
- Indicator Status:
- A green indicator signifies that there is sufficient gas in the selected service tank and gas is flowing.
- A red indicator signifies that the service tank is empty and the regulator has automatically switched to the reserve tank.
- Changing Empty Cylinders: When the indicator turns red, you can safely close the valve on the empty service cylinder, disconnect it, and have it refilled. The regulator will continue to draw gas from the reserve tank.
- Re-engaging a Refilled Tank: Once the empty tank is refilled and reconnected, rotate the lever back to point towards the newly filled tank. The indicator should turn green again.

7. Maintenance
- Regularly inspect all hoses and connections for signs of wear, cracks, or damage. Replace any damaged components immediately.
- Keep the regulator and its vent opening clear of debris, ice, or snow to ensure proper operation.
- Periodically perform a leak test on all gas connections.
- Store LP cylinders in a well-ventilated area, away from heat sources and ignition.
8. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No gas flow to appliances. | Both LP cylinders are empty; cylinder valves are closed; regulator switch is not pointing to a full tank; excess flow device activated. | Check cylinder levels and open valves; ensure regulator lever points to a full tank; reset excess flow device by closing cylinder valve, disconnecting, waiting 30 seconds, and reconnecting. |
| Red indicator light remains on after switching to a full tank. | The newly selected tank is also empty or its valve is closed. | Verify the selected tank has gas and its valve is fully open. |
| Gas odor or bubbling at connections. | Loose connections or damaged hoses/fittings. | Immediately turn off gas supply. Tighten all connections. Replace any damaged hoses or fittings. Perform a leak test. |
