3. Setup
3.1 Initial Winding
Your Seiko 5 watch is an automatic timepiece. It does not require a battery and is powered by the motion of your wrist. If the watch has stopped, it needs to be manually wound to start.
- Gently shake the watch from side to side in a horizontal arc for about 30 seconds. This will initiate the movement and provide enough power for it to start ticking.
- Wear the watch for at least 8 hours a day to maintain its power reserve.
3.2 Setting the Time and Day/Date
The crown is located on the side of the watch case.
- Setting the Day and Date:
- Pull the crown out to the first click position.
- Turn the crown clockwise to set the date.
- Turn the crown counter-clockwise to set the day.
- Important: Do not set the day/date between 9:00 PM and 4:00 AM (21:00 - 04:00) as this can damage the movement. If you need to set the day/date during this period, first set the time outside this window, adjust the day/date, then reset the time.
- Push the crown back to the normal position.
- Setting the Time:
- Pull the crown out to the second click position. The second hand will stop.
- Turn the crown to advance the hands until the correct time is displayed. Ensure you distinguish between AM and PM when setting the time, especially if the day/date changes at noon instead of midnight.
- Push the crown back to the normal position to start the watch.

3.3 Adjusting the Bracelet
The stainless steel bracelet can be adjusted by adding or removing links to achieve a comfortable fit. This procedure typically requires specialized tools and is best performed by a qualified watchmaker or jeweler.

4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Power Reserve
When fully wound, your Seiko 5 automatic watch has a power reserve that allows it to run for approximately 40 hours without being worn. If the watch is not worn for an extended period, it will stop. Simply shake it gently to restart and reset the time and day/date as described in Section 3.2.
4.2 Day/Date Display
The watch features a day and date display. The day of the week is available in two languages (typically English and Arabic or another language). You can select your preferred language when setting the day. The day and date will automatically advance around midnight.
5. Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning Your Watch
To maintain the appearance of your watch, wipe the case and bracelet periodically with a soft, dry cloth. For stainless steel, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by a dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
5.2 Water Resistance
Your watch is water resistant up to 30 meters (100 feet). This means it is suitable for everyday use and can withstand splashes or brief immersion in water. However, it is not suitable for swimming, showering, or diving. Always ensure the crown is fully pushed in to maintain water resistance.
5.3 Avoiding Magnetic Fields
Automatic watches can be affected by strong magnetic fields, which may cause them to run inaccurately or stop. Keep your watch away from strong magnets, such as those found in speakers, refrigerators, and certain electronic devices.
5.4 Periodic Inspection and Service
For optimal performance and longevity, it is recommended to have your watch inspected and serviced by an authorized Seiko service center every 3 to 5 years. This includes checking the movement, seals, and overall condition.
6. Troubleshooting
- Watch has stopped:
As an automatic watch, it requires motion to operate. If it has stopped, gently shake it for about 30 seconds to restart the movement. Ensure you wear it regularly to maintain the power reserve.
- Time is inaccurate:
Inaccuracy can be caused by insufficient winding (not enough wrist movement), exposure to strong magnetic fields, or the need for servicing. Ensure the watch is adequately wound and kept away from magnets. If the issue persists, consult an authorized service center.
- Day/Date not changing correctly:
Ensure you are not attempting to set the day/date between 9:00 PM and 4:00 AM, as this can interfere with the mechanism. If the day/date is stuck or not advancing, try resetting the time and day/date as per Section 3.2. If the problem continues, professional inspection is recommended.
