1. Introduction

This manual provides instructions for the safe and effective use of your Fujifilm FinePix S9400W digital camera. The FinePix S9400W is equipped with a 16.2-megapixel CMOS sensor, a powerful 50x optical zoom lens (24-1200mm equivalent), and Full HD video recording capabilities. It also features built-in Wi-Fi for convenient image transfer.

2. Setup

2.1 Battery Installation

The camera operates on four AA batteries. For optimal performance and battery life, it is recommended to use high-capacity Ni-MH rechargeable batteries. Alkaline or lithium batteries can also be used.

  1. Open the battery compartment cover located on the bottom of the camera.
  2. Insert four AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  3. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

2.2 Memory Card Insertion

The camera supports SD, SDHC, and SDXC memory cards. A memory card is required to store photos and videos.

  1. Open the memory card slot cover, usually located near the battery compartment.
  2. Insert the memory card with the label facing the front of the camera until it clicks into place.
  3. Close the memory card slot cover securely.

2.3 Initial Settings

Upon first power-on or after replacing batteries, you may be prompted to set the date, time, and language. Follow the on-screen instructions using the camera's control buttons.

3. Operating the Camera

3.1 Powering On/Off

Press the POWER button to turn the camera on or off. The lens will extend when powered on.

3.2 Basic Photography

  1. Hold the camera steady with both hands.
  2. Frame your shot using the LCD monitor or the electronic viewfinder (EVF).
  3. Press the shutter button halfway down to focus. The camera will beep when focus is achieved.
  4. Press the shutter button fully to take the picture.

3.3 Zoom Control

The FinePix S9400W features a 50x optical zoom lens. Use the side-lever zoom control located on the lens barrel to adjust the zoom. Push the lever forward to zoom in (telephoto) and backward to zoom out (wide-angle).

3.4 Shooting Modes

Rotate the mode dial on top of the camera to select various shooting modes, including:

  • Program (P): Camera sets aperture and shutter speed for optimal exposure.
  • Shutter Priority (S): You set shutter speed, camera sets aperture.
  • Aperture Priority (A): You set aperture, camera sets shutter speed.
  • Manual (M): You control both aperture and shutter speed.
  • SR Auto: Scene Recognition Auto, camera automatically detects the scene type and applies optimal settings.
  • Scene Position (SP): Select from various pre-set scene modes (e.g., Portrait, Landscape, Sport).
  • Advanced Filter: Apply creative effects like Toy Camera, Miniature, Pop Color, and Partial Color.

3.5 Video Recording

To record videos, press the dedicated MOVIE RECORD button. The camera records Full HD (1920 x 1080) video at up to 60 frames per second. High-speed movie modes are also available for slow-motion playback.

3.6 Wi-Fi Connectivity

The camera features built-in Wi-Fi for wireless transfer of images and videos to compatible smartphones or tablets. Download the free Fujifilm Camera Application to your device and follow the in-app instructions to establish a connection and transfer files.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning the Camera

  • Lens: Use a soft, lint-free cloth or a lens brush to gently remove dust. For smudges, use a specialized lens cleaning solution applied to a cloth, not directly to the lens.
  • Body: Wipe the camera body with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use organic solvents or strong cleaning agents.
  • LCD Monitor: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the screen. Avoid pressing hard.

4.2 Storage

When not in use, store the camera in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight, high temperatures, and humidity. Remove batteries if storing for an extended period to prevent leakage.

5. Troubleshooting
