4.2 Adjusting Tilling Depth and Width

The tilling width can be adjusted between 8.25 inches and 10 inches. Refer to your product manual for specific instructions on how to adjust the tines for desired width. The tilling depth can be adjusted up to 5 inches by manipulating the rear wheels or by applying downward pressure on the handles during operation.

4.3 General Operation Tips

  • Begin tilling in an area free of large rocks or debris.
  • Allow the tines to penetrate the soil naturally. Do not force the machine.

  • Move the tiller/cultivator slowly and steadily for best results.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your tiller/cultivator.

  • Cleaning: After each use, clean the tines and housing to remove soil, debris, and plant matter. Use a stiff brush or cloth. Do not use water directly on electrical components.
  • Tine Inspection: Periodically inspect the tines for wear, damage, or entanglement with roots/vines. Remove any wrapped debris carefully. Replace worn or damaged tines promptly.
  • Battery Care: Store the battery in a cool, dry place. Do not expose it to extreme temperatures. Charge the battery fully before storage and periodically during long periods of inactivity.
  • Storage: Fold the handles for compact storage. Store the unit in a dry, secure location away from children.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Greenworks 40V Tiller/Cultivator, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Tiller does not start:
    - Ensure the battery is fully charged and properly inserted.
    - Check that the safety switch and bail switch are both engaged.
  • Tines are not rotating or are rotating slowly:
    - Inspect tines for excessive debris (roots, vines, rocks) wrapped around them. Clear any obstructions.
    - Check for any loose connections or damage to the tines.
  • Reduced run time:
    - The battery may not be fully charged or may be nearing the end of its lifespan. Recharge or consider replacing the battery.
    - Operating in very dense or rocky soil can reduce battery life.
  • Tiller is difficult to maneuver:
    - Ensure the rear wheels are set to the appropriate height for the desired tilling depth.
    - Avoid trying to till overly hard or compacted soil in a single pass.
