Before First Use

  1. Carefully unpack the slow cooker and remove all packaging materials.
  2. Wash the removable stoneware pot and tempered glass lid in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely.
  3. Wipe the exterior of the heating base with a soft, damp cloth. Do not immerse the heating base in water or any other liquid.
  4. Ensure all parts are dry before assembly and use.

Setup

  1. Place the heating base on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface, away from walls or cabinets to allow for proper ventilation.
  2. Carefully place the clean, dry stoneware pot into the heating base.
  3. Add your ingredients to the stoneware pot. Do not overfill; leave at least 1 inch of space from the rim to prevent boiling over.
  4. Place the tempered glass lid securely on top of the stoneware pot.

Operating Instructions

The Elite Gourmet MST-900R Slow Cooker features a simple control knob with four settings:

  • OFF: Turns the appliance off.
  • WARM: Maintains food at a serving temperature after cooking. This setting is not for cooking raw food.
  • LOW: For slow cooking and simmering. Ideal for tenderizing less expensive cuts of meat. Cooking times are generally longer on this setting.
  • HIGH: For faster cooking. Use when you need to cook food in a shorter amount of time.

To operate:

  1. After setting up the slow cooker with your ingredients, plug the power cord into a standard 120V AC electrical outlet.
  2. Turn the control knob to your desired cooking setting: LOW or HIGH. The indicator light will illuminate.
  3. Cook for the recommended time according to your recipe. Avoid lifting the lid frequently, as this releases heat and extends cooking time.
  4. Once cooking is complete, you may turn the knob to the WARM setting to keep food at an ideal serving temperature.
  5. When finished, turn the control knob to OFF and unplug the appliance from the wall outlet.

Cooking Tips

  • For best results, ensure the stoneware pot is at least half full. If cooking smaller quantities, adjust cooking times accordingly.
  • Root vegetables (carrots, potatoes) cook slower than meat. Place them at the bottom of the pot and cover with liquid.
  • Dairy products and fresh herbs should be added during the last hour of cooking to prevent curdling or loss of flavor.
  • Browning meat and sautéing vegetables before adding them to the slow cooker can enhance flavor and texture.
  • Liquids do not evaporate in a slow cooker as they do in conventional cooking. Reduce liquid amounts in recipes by about one-third.

Care and Maintenance

Proper care ensures the longevity and performance of your slow cooker.

  1. Always unplug the slow cooker and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
  2. The removable stoneware pot and tempered glass lid are dishwasher-safe for easy cleaning. Alternatively, they can be washed by hand in warm, soapy water.
  3. To clean the heating base, wipe the exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, as they may scratch the surface. Never immerse the heating base in water or any other liquid.
  4. For stubborn food residue on the stoneware pot, fill it with warm, soapy water and let it soak for a few hours before cleaning.
  5. Store the slow cooker with the lid inverted on the stoneware pot to prevent odors and allow air circulation.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your slow cooker, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Appliance does not turn on: Ensure the power cord is securely plugged into a working electrical outlet and the control knob is set to LOW or HIGH.
  • Food is not cooking properly: Verify that the lid is seated correctly and not allowing steam to escape. Ensure the correct setting (LOW or HIGH) is selected for the desired cooking time. Avoid lifting the lid frequently.
  • Food is burning on the bottom or sides: This can occur if the slow cooker is too full, or if the recipe requires less cooking time than allotted. Reduce cooking time or ensure adequate liquid is present.
  • Stoneware pot has cracks: Discontinue use immediately. Cracks can be caused by sudden temperature changes or impact.
  • Initial smoke/smell: As noted in the introduction, a slight smell or smoke during the first use is normal and will dissipate. If it persists or is excessive, unplug the unit and contact customer support.
