4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

This circular saw is part of the 20V MAX* POWERCONNECT battery system. Ensure you have a fully charged 20V MAX* POWERCONNECT battery (not included with bare tool) before operation.

  1. Align the battery with the battery port on the tool.
  2. Slide the battery into the tool until it clicks securely into place.
  3. To remove, press the battery release button and slide the battery out.

4.2 Blade Installation/Removal

The saw features a tool-free blade change mechanism.

  1. Ensure the battery is removed from the tool for safety.
  2. Locate the spindle lock button (refer to Components Overview). Press and hold the spindle lock button.
  3. Using the included hex key, loosen the blade bolt by turning it clockwise (note: this is a reverse thread).
  4. Remove the outer flange and the old blade.
  5. Place the new 5-1/2 inch blade onto the spindle, ensuring the teeth are pointing in the correct direction (usually indicated by an arrow on the blade guard).
  6. Replace the outer flange and tighten the blade bolt by turning counter-clockwise. Release the spindle lock.

4.3 Depth and Bevel Adjustment

  • Depth Adjustment: Loosen the depth adjustment knob, slide the shoe to the desired depth, and tighten the knob.
  • Bevel Adjustment: Loosen the bevel adjustment lever, tilt the shoe to the desired angle (detents at 45 and 90 degrees), and tighten the lever.

5. Operating Instructions

Before operating, ensure all adjustments are secure and the battery is fully charged.

  • Starting the Saw: To start the saw, depress the trigger lock button (if present) and then squeeze the variable-speed trigger. The blade speed will increase as you squeeze the trigger further.
  • Stopping the Saw: Release the variable-speed trigger. The electric brake will quickly stop the blade.
  • Making Cuts: Align the saw's base plate with your cutting line. Allow the blade to reach full speed before entering the material. Apply steady, even pressure to guide the saw through the workpiece. The pivoting shoe provides additional control during cuts.
  • Angled Cuts: For angled cuts, set the bevel to 45 or 90 degrees as needed.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your circular saw.

  • Cleaning: Keep the tool clean and free of dust and debris. Use a dry cloth to wipe down surfaces. Do not use solvents or harsh chemicals.
  • Blade Care: Regularly inspect the blade for sharpness and damage. Replace dull or damaged blades promptly to ensure efficient and safe cutting.
  • Battery Care: Store batteries in a cool, dry place. Do not expose batteries to extreme temperatures or moisture.
