Setup Instructions

  1. Prepare the Plant Insert: Place the Lechuza-Pon plant substrate at the bottom of the plant insert to create a drainage layer.
  2. Insert the Plant: Carefully place your plant into the plant insert. Fill the remaining space with your preferred potting soil, ensuring the plant is centered and stable.
  3. Assemble the Irrigation System: Integrate the irrigation system components into the plant insert. The water level indicator should be positioned for easy visibility.
  4. Place Plant Insert into Planter: Lower the assembled plant insert into the Lechuza Rondo planter. The retractable handle frame allows for easy placement and removal.
  5. Initial Watering: For the first few weeks after planting, water the plant from above, directly onto the soil. This allows the plant's roots to grow downwards and reach the water reservoir.
  6. Activate Self-Watering: Once the roots have established (typically after 2-3 weeks), begin filling the water reservoir through the designated opening until the water level indicator reaches the "max" mark.

Operating the Self-Watering System

The Lechuza self-watering system is designed to provide consistent moisture to your plants. Follow these guidelines for optimal performance:

  • Water Level Indicator: Monitor the water level indicator. When it drops below the "min" mark, it's time to refill the reservoir.
  • Refilling: Add water through the designated filling shaft until the indicator reaches the "max" mark. Avoid overfilling.
  • Watering Frequency: The frequency of refilling depends on the plant type, size, and environmental conditions. The system can provide water for up to 12 weeks between refills for some plants.
  • Drainage: For outdoor use, ensure the drainage plug at the bottom of the planter is removed to allow excess rainwater to escape, preventing waterlogging. For indoor use, keep the drainage plug in place.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: The high-gloss surface can be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners that may scratch the finish.
  • Repotting: The removable plant insert simplifies repotting and root pruning. Simply lift the insert out of the main planter to access the plant.
  • Durability: The planter is made from high-quality, shockproof poly-resin, making it unbreakable, weather-resistant, and UV-resistant.

Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter:

  • Plant appears dry despite full reservoir: Ensure enough time has passed for roots to reach the reservoir (initial watering period). Check if the plant insert is correctly seated and the irrigation system is properly assembled.
  • Water level indicator not moving: Verify that the indicator float is not obstructed and moves freely. Ensure the reservoir is being filled correctly.
  • Waterlogging (outdoor use): Confirm that the drainage plug has been removed from the bottom of the planter to allow excess water to drain.
