Mitutoyo 7033B Universal Magnetic Stand User Manual

Model: 7033B

1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use of your Mitutoyo 7033B Universal Magnetic Stand. Please read this manual thoroughly before operation and retain it for future reference. The Mitutoyo 7033B is designed to securely hold dial indicators and dial test indicators in various measurement applications, featuring a robust magnetic base and a versatile mechanical locking arm system.

2. Safety Information

  • Always ensure the magnetic base is firmly engaged on a ferromagnetic surface before attaching any measuring instrument.
  • Do not expose the magnetic stand to excessive heat or strong magnetic fields from other sources, as this may affect its magnetic properties.
  • Handle the stand with care to prevent damage to the mechanical components.
  • Keep the magnetic base clean and free of debris to ensure optimal magnetic adhesion.
  • Avoid dropping the stand, as this can impair its functionality and accuracy.

3. Components Overview

The Mitutoyo 7033B Universal Magnetic Stand consists of the following main components:

  • Magnetic Base: The foundation of the stand, equipped with an On-Off switch for magnetic engagement.
  • Main Column: The vertical support extending from the magnetic base.
  • Articulating Arm Assembly: A multi-jointed arm allowing for flexible positioning of the indicator.
  • Fine Adjustment Clamp: For precise positioning of the indicator.
  • Indicator Holder: Accepts dial indicators with 3/8", 6mm, or 8mm stems, and dovetail mounts for dial test indicators.
  • Mechanical Locking Knob: A single knob that locks all joints of the articulating arm simultaneously.

The mechanical locking knob is visible on the arm.

4. Setup

  1. Prepare the Surface: Ensure the surface where the magnetic stand will be placed is clean, flat, and made of a ferromagnetic material (e.g., steel, cast iron).
  2. Engage the Magnet: Place the magnetic base on the desired surface. Move the On-Off switch on the magnetic base to the "ON" position. You should feel a strong magnetic pull, indicating the base is securely attached.
  3. Attach the Indicator: Loosen the fine adjustment clamp on the indicator holder. Insert the stem of your dial indicator (3/8", 6mm, or 8mm) into the appropriate hole, or attach a dial test indicator using the dovetail mount. Tighten the clamp securely to hold the indicator in place.
  4. Position the Arm: Loosen the mechanical locking knob on the articulating arm. Adjust the arm and indicator holder to the desired position for your measurement task.
  5. Lock the Arm: Once the indicator is in the approximate position, tighten the mechanical locking knob firmly. This will lock all joints of the articulating arm simultaneously, providing rigid support for the indicator.

5. Operating Instructions

The Mitutoyo 7033B is designed for precise and stable indicator positioning. Follow these steps for effective operation:

  1. Initial Placement: With the magnetic base magnet OFF, place the stand on the desired measurement surface.
  2. Activate Magnet: Flip the On-Off switch to the "ON" position to secure the base. Ensure the base is stable and does not wobble.
  3. Rough Positioning: Loosen the main mechanical locking knob. Adjust the articulating arm to bring the indicator close to the measurement point.
  4. Fine Adjustment: Once the arm is roughly positioned, tighten the mechanical locking knob. Use the fine adjustment clamp on the indicator holder for precise, small movements to set the indicator's contact point.
  5. Measurement: Perform your measurement as required by your specific application.
  6. Dismounting: To move or store the stand, first remove the indicator if necessary. Then, flip the On-Off switch on the magnetic base to the "OFF" position to release the magnetic hold. Lift the stand carefully from the surface.

Note: The On-Off switch allows for instant mounting and dismounting without any adverse effect to the indicators or workpiece surface.

6. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your magnetic stand.

  • Cleaning: Wipe the stand regularly with a clean, dry cloth. For stubborn grime, a mild, non-abrasive cleaner can be used, applied to the cloth, not directly to the stand.
  • Magnetic Base Care: Keep the bottom surface of the magnetic base clean and free of metal chips, dust, or other debris. Any foreign material can reduce the magnetic holding force.
  • Lubrication: The mechanical joints are designed for smooth operation. Avoid applying excessive lubricants, which can attract dust and debris. If any joint feels stiff, a very small amount of light machine oil may be applied to the pivot points, then wiped clean.
  • Storage: Store the magnetic stand in a clean, dry environment, away from strong magnetic fields and extreme temperatures. Ensure the magnet is in the "OFF" position during storage to prevent accidental attraction to other metal objects.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect all components for signs of wear, damage, or loose fasteners. If any damage is found, discontinue use and contact Mitutoyo service.
