This manual provides essential information for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your 2000eM keypad.

Product Overview

Linear IEI 2000eM Series Access Control Keypad

Image 1: Front view of the Linear IEI 2000eM Series Access Control Keypad. The keypad features a metallic silver frame with a black central panel containing twelve numeric keys (0-9, *, #) and three indicator lights at the top. The keys are clearly labeled with numbers and letters (e.g., 2 ABC, 3 DEF). Two visible screws secure the unit.

The 2000eM keypad is a robust access control device. Its design incorporates backlit keys for visibility in low-light conditions and a durable construction suitable for various environments. The internal electronics are conformal coated to enhance resistance against environmental factors, making it suitable for outdoor use.

Setup and Operating Modes

The 2000eM keypad supports three distinct operating modes, each catering to different access control system architectures. The default mode is Standalone. Refer to the programming section (not detailed in this general manual) for instructions on selecting and configuring each mode.

1. Standalone Mode

In Standalone Mode, the keypad functions as a complete access control unit. All user codes and programming options are stored directly within the keypad. It manages access decisions independently, with the locking device and other inputs/outputs connected directly to the keypad.

2. Secured Series Front End Mode

This mode requires a separate Secured Series Controller (e.g., Hub Max II or Hub MiniMax II). The controller stores user data and programming, making all access control decisions. The locking device and all inputs/outputs connect to the controller, while the 2000eM keypad acts as an input device. This configuration was evaluated by UL for use with Hub Max II and Hub MiniMax II products.

3. Wiegand Front End Mode

For this mode, an external Wiegand Access Control panel is necessary. When a code is entered on the keypad, it is transmitted to the control panel as Wiegand card data, based on the programmed format. The control panel manages user information, programming, and access decisions. The locking device and all inputs/outputs are connected to the control panel. The 2000eM keypads were evaluated by UL for use with Hub Max II and Hub MiniMax II products in conjunction with the Wiegand Interface Module when operating in Wiegand Front End mode.

Operation

To gain access, users typically enter a pre-programmed access code using the numeric keys. The backlit keys ensure visibility in various lighting conditions. The keypad will then communicate with the connected system (or act independently in Standalone mode) to grant or deny access based on the entered code and system configuration.

Maintenance

The 2000eM keypad is designed for long-term durability with hardened keys and conformal coated electronics. Regular maintenance is minimal:

  • Cleaning: Periodically wipe the keypad surface with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the finish or key legends.
  • Inspection: Routinely check for any physical damage or loose connections, especially if installed in an outdoor environment.

Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your 2000eM keypad.

  • Keypad unresponsive: Check the power supply to the keypad and ensure all wiring connections are secure.
  • Code not granting access: Verify that the correct code is being entered. In Secured Series or Wiegand modes, ensure the connected controller/panel is functioning correctly and the code is valid within its programming.
  • Backlight not working: Confirm power supply. If the issue persists, professional service may be required.
  • Intermittent operation: Inspect wiring for damage or corrosion, especially in outdoor installations. Ensure proper grounding if applicable.

For complex issues, consult a qualified technician or contact Linear IEI support.
