2. Setup and Installation

2.1 Unpacking

Carefully remove the safe from its packaging. Inspect the safe for any signs of damage that may have occurred during shipping. Report any damage to your dealer immediately.

2.2 Placement

Choose a suitable location for your safe. The FB-450C is designed for freestanding or tabletop mounting. Ensure the surface is level and capable of supporting the safe's weight (approximately 242 pounds).

2.3 Securing the Safe (Bolt Down)

For enhanced security, it is highly recommended to bolt the safe to the floor. Your safe includes one anchor bolt hole and bolt-down hardware.

  1. Position the safe in its desired location.
  2. Open the safe door and locate the anchor bolt hole on the bottom interior of the safe.
  3. Mark the drilling spot on the floor through the anchor bolt hole.
  4. Move the safe aside and drill a hole in the marked spot using an appropriate drill bit for your floor type (concrete, wood, etc.).
  5. Reposition the safe over the drilled hole.
  6. Insert the provided bolt through the anchor bolt hole and secure it firmly to the floor using the appropriate tools. Do not overtighten.

Note: Professional installation is recommended for optimal security and to ensure proper bolting.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Opening the Safe (Dial Combination Lock)

Your Hollon Safe FB-450C is equipped with an S&G Group 2 dial combination lock. The factory-set combination or your personal combination will be provided separately or found on a sealed envelope with your safe. Always keep your combination in a secure location, separate from the safe.

To open the safe:

  1. Turn the dial RIGHT to the first number of your combination FOUR times, stopping precisely on the number the fourth time.
  2. Turn the dial LEFT to the second number of your combination THREE times, stopping precisely on the number the third time.
  3. Turn the dial RIGHT to the third number of your combination TWO times, stopping precisely on the number the second time.
  4. Turn the dial LEFT until the dial stops or the handle can be turned.
  5. Rotate the tri-spoke handle to the open position and pull the door open.

Important: Always ensure the dial is turned precisely to the numbers. If you pass a number, you must restart the entire sequence from the beginning.

3.2 Closing and Locking the Safe

To close and lock the safe:

  1. Close the safe door firmly.
  2. Rotate the tri-spoke handle to the closed/locked position. This will extend the two moving front bolts and the vertical locking bar.
  3. Spin the dial several rotations in either direction to scramble the combination and ensure the safe is securely locked.

Always verify the safe is locked by attempting to turn the handle again without entering the combination.

3.3 Changing the Combination

Combination changes for S&G Group 2 dial locks typically require a qualified locksmith. Attempting to change the combination yourself without proper knowledge can result in the safe becoming locked permanently. Contact a certified locksmith for combination changes.

4. Maintenance

Your Hollon Safe FB-450C is designed for durability and requires minimal maintenance. However, regular care can prolong its lifespan and ensure optimal performance.

  • Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the safe with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the finish.
  • Lock Mechanism: The dial combination lock is a precision instrument. Do not attempt to lubricate the lock mechanism yourself. If the dial becomes stiff or difficult to turn, contact a qualified locksmith for inspection and service.
  • Door Bolts and Hinges: Periodically check the door bolts and hinges for any signs of wear or looseness. Ensure the door operates smoothly.
  • Fire Seal: The fire seal around the door is crucial for the safe's fire rating. Inspect it periodically for any damage or degradation.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your safe, refer to the following common troubleshooting tips:

  • Safe will not open after entering combination:
    • Ensure you are turning the dial precisely to the numbers.
    • Verify you are following the correct sequence (4 times right, 3 times left, 2 times right, then left to open).
    • Make sure you are using the correct combination.
    • If the dial feels unusually stiff or loose, contact a locksmith.
  • Door is stiff or difficult to close:
    • Check for any obstructions around the door frame or hinges.
    • Ensure the safe is level.
    • Do not force the door. If the issue persists, contact a qualified technician.
