Image and Video Capture
The G16 captures stunning 12.1 Megapixel still images and 1080p Full HD video at 60 frames per second (fps). The 5x optical zoom lens (28-140mm equivalent) with a bright f/1.8-2.8 aperture allows for versatile shooting from wide-angle to telephoto, even in low light. Intelligent IS automatically optimizes image stabilization for various shooting conditions, ensuring clear and steady results.
Focusing
The camera features a High Speed AF system for quick and accurate focusing. For manual control, MF Peaking provides a visual aid by outlining focused subjects, making fine-tuning easier. The Dual Axis Electronic Level helps ensure your shots are perfectly level.
Wi-Fi Connectivity
Built-in Wi-Fi allows for easy sharing of photos and videos. You can connect directly to iOS and Android devices using the free Canon CameraWindow app to upload images to social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr) or send them to email. Images can also be transferred to a computer or printed wirelessly to PictBridge certified printers.
Maintenance
Cleaning the Camera
Regularly clean the camera body with a soft, dry cloth. For the lens, use a lens brush or blower to remove dust, followed by a lens cleaning cloth and solution if necessary. Avoid touching the lens surface directly with your fingers. Keep the LCD screen clean using a soft, lint-free cloth.
Battery Care
To prolong battery life, avoid exposing the battery to extreme temperatures. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when not in use. If the camera will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery.
Storage
Store the camera in a dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight, high temperatures, and humidity. Use a camera bag or case to protect it from dust and physical damage.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Canon PowerShot G16, consider the following common solutions:
- Camera not turning on: Ensure the battery is fully charged and correctly inserted.
- Images are blurry: Check focus settings, ensure sufficient lighting, and verify that Image Stabilization is active if shooting handheld.
- Memory card error: Reinsert the memory card, try a different card, or format the card (note: formatting will erase all data).
- Wi-Fi connection issues: Ensure the camera and connected device are within range and that the Canon CameraWindow app is updated.
