Introduction

It features 4-stage charging (Qualification, Bulk, Absorption, and Float) to ensure optimal battery health. Once the recharge is complete, the charger automatically transitions to float mode to maintain proper voltage levels without overcharging. It is specifically designed for AGM batteries but is also compatible with all lead-acid batteries, including small Powersports batteries up to large deep cycle batteries. The charger is completely safe, includes a 72-hour timer to prevent further damage to marginal batteries, and is fully approved for California and Oregon markets. Setup and Initial Connection

Before connecting the charger to your battery, ensure you have selected the correct battery voltage and type. The charger features a built-in safety mechanism that prevents changing settings once connected to the battery.

1. Plug into AC Outlet: First, plug the charger's AC cord into a standard 120V AC outlet.
2. Select Battery Voltage: Use the 'SELECT' button to choose between 6V or 12V, matching your battery's voltage. The corresponding LED will illuminate.
3. Select Battery Type: Use the other 'SELECT' button to choose the battery chemistry: AGM/Flooded or Lithium (LiFePO4). The corresponding LED will illuminate.
4. Connect Red Clamp: Attach the red (positive, +) alligator clamp or ring terminal to the positive terminal of your battery. Ensure a tight and secure connection.
5. Connect Black Clamp: Attach the black (negative, -) alligator clamp or ring terminal to the negative terminal of your battery. For safety, if charging a battery still in a vehicle, connect the black clamp to a metal part of the vehicle's chassis away from the battery and fuel lines.
6. Verify Connection: The charger is spark-proof during lead connection and automatically detects reverse polarity to ensure a correct, locked-in connection before providing power.

Operating the Charger

Once properly connected and settings are selected, the charger will automatically begin its 4-stage charging process:

• Qualification: Assesses battery condition.
• Bulk: Charges the battery to approximately 80% capacity.
• Absorption: Charges the battery to 100% capacity at a decreasing current.
• Float: Maintains the battery at full charge.

A solid state two-color LED light indicates the charging status. When the 'Charging' LED is illuminated, the battery is actively charging. If the battery voltage drops too far under load, the ISM adaptive charging will resume full charger output power.

Battery Maintenance (Float Mode)

The Battery Tender charger is designed for long-term connection. Once the battery reaches a full state of charge, the charger automatically switches to a float (maintenance) mode. In this mode, the charger will maintain the battery at full capacity without overcharging, preventing sulfation and extending battery life. This feature is ideal for vehicles stored for extended periods, such as during vacations or off-season storage, ensuring your battery is always ready for use.

Troubleshooting

• No Charging Indication: Ensure the charger is properly plugged into a live AC outlet and that the battery clamps are securely connected to the correct terminals. The charger has automatic reverse polarity protection; if connected incorrectly, it will not charge.
• Marginal Batteries: The charger includes a 72-hour timer to prevent further damage to marginal batteries. If a battery is severely depleted or damaged (e.g., bulged or destroyed plates), the charger may not be able to revive it.
• Overheating: Although designed to be safe, ensure the charger is placed in a well-ventilated area, especially if charging a battery still in a car, as batteries can vent gas during charging. Avoid any electrical sparks near gassing batteries.
