1. Introduction

The Extech LT10 Pocket Light Meter is designed for measuring light intensity. This compact device provides accurate readings in both Foot-Candle (Fc) and Lux units, making it suitable for various applications requiring quick light measurements.

This manual provides detailed instructions for the proper setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your LT10 light meter.

2. Safety Information

Please read and understand all safety instructions before operating the device. Failure to do so may result in damage to the meter or personal injury.

  • Do not expose the meter to extreme temperatures or high humidity.
  • Avoid dropping the meter or subjecting it to strong impacts.
  • Keep the sensor clean and free from obstructions for accurate readings.
  • Replace batteries promptly when the low battery indicator appears.

  • Light Sensor: Located at the top of the meter, this component detects ambient light.
  • LCD Display: Shows light intensity readings, units (Lux/Fc), and battery status.
  • Power Button: Used to turn the meter on and off.

4. Setup

4.1. Battery Installation

The Extech LT10 requires one 9V battery (included). To install or replace the battery:

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the meter.
  2. Slide or unclip the cover to open it.
  3. Connect the 9V battery to the battery clip, observing correct polarity.
  4. Place the battery into the compartment and close the cover securely.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Powering On/Off

Press the Power Button (marked with a circle and vertical line) to turn the meter on. The LCD display will illuminate automatically. Press the button again to turn the meter off.

5.2. Taking a Measurement

To take a light intensity measurement:

  1. Turn on the meter using the Power Button.
  2. Position the light sensor towards the light source or the area where you wish to measure light intensity. Ensure the sensor is not obstructed.
  3. Read the light intensity value displayed on the LCD screen. The unit (Lux or Fc) will be indicated.
  4. The meter automatically measures light intensity at a rate of 1.5 times per second.

5.3. Measurement Units

The LT10 measures light intensity in two units:

  • Lux: Lumens per square meter.
  • Foot-Candle (Fc): Lumens per square foot.

The meter supports measurements up to 4000 Fc or 40,000 Lux.

6. Maintenance

6.1. Cleaning

To ensure accurate readings and prolong the life of your meter:

  • Wipe the meter's casing with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Gently clean the light sensor with a soft, lint-free cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.

6.2. Battery Replacement

Refer to Section 4.1 for instructions on replacing the 9V battery. Replace the battery when the low battery indicator appears on the display to ensure continuous operation and accurate measurements.

6.3. Storage

When storing the meter for extended periods, remove the battery to prevent leakage and potential damage to the device.

7. Troubleshooting
