Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the Systor 1:1 HDD/SSD Hard Drive Duplicator, Model SYS101HS-DP. This standalone device is designed for efficient and secure duplication and sanitization of 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SATA Hard Disk Drives (HDDs) and Solid State Drives (SSDs). It operates independently, requiring no computer or software, and supports various copy and erase modes to meet your data management needs.
Setup
1. Unpacking and Initial Inspection
- Carefully remove the duplicator from its packaging.
- Inspect the unit for any signs of damage. If damage is found, do not proceed with setup and contact customer support.
- Ensure all components listed in the packing list are present.
2. Connecting Power
- Connect the provided power cable to the duplicator's power input and then to a standard electrical outlet.
- Press the power button located on the front panel to turn on the unit. The display should illuminate.
3. Identifying Drive Slots
The duplicator features clearly labeled slots for source and target drives.
- Source Slot (Master): This is the top slot, designated for the drive containing the data to be copied or erased.
- Target Slots: These are the lower slots, designated for the drives onto which data will be copied. For the 1:1 model, there is one target slot.

4. Inserting Drives
The duplicator supports both 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SATA HDDs and SSDs without the need for adapters.
- Gently slide the source drive into the Source Slot until it is securely connected.
- Gently slide the target drive(s) into the Target Slot(s) until they are securely connected.
- Ensure drives are inserted correctly to avoid damage to the connectors.

Operating Instructions
The Systor duplicator is a standalone unit controlled via its front panel buttons and LCD display.
Control Panel
- LCD Display: Shows menu options and operation status.
- ENT Button: Confirms selections or actions.
- ESC Button: Cancels actions or navigates back through menus.
- Arrow Buttons (Up/Down): Navigate through menu options.
Copy Modes
The duplicator offers two primary copy modes:
- System and Files (Data Only): Copies only the data content and system files from the source drive, excluding unoccupied disk space. This mode is faster for drives that are not full.
- Whole HDD (Sector by Sector): Creates an exact mirror image of the entire source drive, including all partitions, boot sectors, and unoccupied space. This is a bit-for-bit copy.
Supported Formats: Windows (FAT16/Fat32/NTFS), Linux (EXT2/EXT3), Mac (HFS).
Transfer Rate: Up to 90MB per second (5.4GB per minute). Copy speed remains consistent regardless of the number of target drives.

Erase Modes
The duplicator provides several secure erase options:
- Quick Erase: Erases the data content of the target drive(s) but does not erase the drive format.
- Full Erase: Erases both the data content and the format of the target drive(s).
- DoD Erase (DoD 5220.22-M): Complies with the USA Department of Defense standard for data sanitization. This method erases all data bit-by-bit three times to ensure permanent deletion, making data unrecoverable.

General Operation Steps (Copy or Erase)
- Power On: Ensure the duplicator is powered on.
- Insert Drives: Insert the source drive into the top slot and the target drive(s) into the lower slot(s).
- Select Function: Use the arrow buttons to navigate the main menu and select either "Copy HDD" or "Erase HDD". Press ENT to confirm.
- Select Mode: For copying, choose "System and Files" or "Whole HDD". For erasing, choose "Quick Erase", "Full Erase", or "DoD Erase". Press ENT to confirm.
- Confirm Action: The display will prompt for confirmation. Press ENT to start the operation.
- Monitor Progress: The display will show the progress of the operation. Do not turn off the duplicator while it is running.
- Completion: Once the operation is complete, the display will indicate success or any errors. Safely remove the drives.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Keep the duplicator clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for external surfaces. Avoid liquid cleaners.
- Drive Slots: Handle drive insertions and removals gently to prevent damage to the SATA connectors within the slots.
- Ventilation: Ensure the unit's ventilation openings are not blocked to allow for proper airflow and cooling. The internal fan helps maintain optimal operating temperature.
- Storage: When not in use, store the duplicator in a cool, dry environment away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
Troubleshooting
Common Issues and Solutions
- Duplicator does not power on:
- Check if the power cable is securely connected to both the unit and the power outlet.
- Verify the power outlet is functional.
- Drive not detected:
- Ensure the drive is fully and correctly inserted into its slot.
- Verify the drive is a SATA HDD or SSD.
- Test with a different drive to rule out a faulty drive.
- Copy/Erase operation is slow:
- The maximum transfer rate is 90MB/s. Actual speed can be limited by the read/write performance of the slowest drive (source or target).
- Ensure drives are in good working condition.
- Error message during operation:
- Note the exact error message displayed.
- Check drive health. A faulty source or target drive can cause errors.
- Ensure the target drive has sufficient capacity if performing a "Whole HDD" copy.
- Cannot copy to a smaller drive:
- The duplicator typically requires the target drive to be equal to or larger than the source drive for a "Whole HDD" copy.
- For "System and Files" copy, the target drive must still be large enough to accommodate the actual data being copied.
- Progress percentage stops updating after 1 hour:
- This is a known firmware behavior for longer operations. The process is still running; allow it to complete.
