Setup and Installation

Before beginning installation, ensure the power supply is disconnected. This timer is designed for indoor mounting only.

  1. Mounting: Select a suitable indoor location near a standard 120V AC outlet and away from direct sunlight or extreme temperatures. Use appropriate screws to secure the timer to the wall.
  2. Wiring Valves: Connect the common wire from your irrigation valves to the terminal labeled 'COMMON' on the timer. Connect each zone valve wire to its corresponding zone terminal (e.g., Zone 1 valve to Zone 1 terminal, Zone 2 valve to Zone 2 terminal, etc.). The SST600IN supports up to 6 zones.
  3. Power Connection: Plug the timer's power cord into a standard 120V AC outlet. The display should illuminate.
  4. Initial Power-Up: Upon first power-up, the timer may prompt you to set the current time and date.

Operating Instructions

The SST600IN timer features a large rotary dial for mode selection and intuitive buttons for programming.

1. Setting Current Time and Date

  1. Turn the dial to SET CLOCK.
  2. Use the Up/Down arrows to adjust the hour, then press the right arrow to move to minutes, and adjust. Press the right arrow again to select AM/PM.
  3. Turn the dial to SET DATE.
  4. Use the Up/Down arrows to adjust the year, then month, then day.

2. Programming Watering Schedule (Per Zone)

This timer allows you to program each zone independently.

  1. Turn the dial to the desired ZONE (e.g., ZONE 1).
  2. Set Start Times: The display will show 'Start Time'. Use the Up/Down arrows to set the first start time. To add more start times (up to four), press the right arrow button and repeat the process. To remove a start time, adjust it to 'OFF'.
  3. Set Duration: The display will show 'Duration'. Use the Up/Down arrows to set the watering duration for this zone in minutes.
  4. Select Watering Days: Use the buttons under 'WATERING DAYS' to select which days this zone will water. Press the button next to the desired day (e.g., MONDAY) to activate or deactivate it. You can also select ODD DAYS or EVEN DAYS for specific watering patterns.
  5. Select Watering Times Per Day: Use the buttons under 'WATERING TIMES PER DAY' to specify how many times per day the zone will water (e.g., ONE TIME, TWO TIMES). Select ZONE OFF to disable watering for the current zone.
  6. Repeat steps for all other zones (ZONE 2 through ZONE 6) as needed.

3. Running Programmed Schedule

  • Once programming is complete, turn the dial to AUTO RUN. The timer will now automatically water according to your set schedule.

4. Manual Watering

  • Water All Zones Now: Turn the dial to AUTO RUN, then press the WATER ALL NOW button. All zones will water sequentially for their programmed duration.
  • Water One Zone Now: Turn the dial to the specific ZONE you wish to water (e.g., ZONE 3), then press the WATER ONE ZONE NOW button. Only that zone will water for its programmed duration.

5. Rain Delay

  • To temporarily suspend watering, turn the dial to RAIN DELAY. Use the Up/Down arrows to select the number of days for the delay (e.g., 24, 48, 72 hours). The timer will resume its schedule automatically after the delay period.

6. Turning Off the System

  • To completely stop all automatic and manual watering, turn the dial to OFF.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the timer's exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Power Supply: Ensure the power outlet is stable and free from fluctuations. The timer has superior surge protection, but extreme surges can still cause damage.
  • Winterization: In regions with freezing temperatures, it is recommended to disconnect the timer and drain your irrigation system to prevent damage from freezing water.

Troubleshooting

  • Display is Blank: Check if the power cord is securely plugged into a working outlet. Verify the outlet has power.
  • Zones Not Watering:
    • Ensure the dial is set to AUTO RUN.
    • Check if a RAIN DELAY is active.
    • Verify that the specific zone is not set to ZONE OFF in its programming.
    • Inspect wiring connections to the valves and common terminal.
    • Check for tripped circuit breakers or blown fuses in your electrical panel.
  • Incorrect Watering Times/Days: Re-enter the SET CLOCK and SET DATE settings. Review the programming for each zone carefully, ensuring start times, durations, and watering days are correctly selected.
  • Valve Fault Protection: If a valve fault is detected, the timer may display an error message or skip the affected zone. Inspect the wiring and the valve itself for issues.
