4. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to install your Inspired LED Flex LED Kit. Ensure power is off before beginning.

4.1. Planning Your Installation

  • Determine the desired locations for your LED lighting (e.g., under cabinets, shelves, display cases).
  • Measure the lengths required for each section. The LED strip can be cut at designated points, typically every 0.625 inches (1.59 cm), marked by a copper pad.
  • Plan the routing of interconnect cables and the placement of the power supply and on/off switch.

4.2. Cutting and Connecting LED Strips

  1. Carefully cut the LED strip at the designated copper pads using sharp scissors.
  2. To connect two LED strip sections or an LED strip to an interconnect cable, use the Tiger Paw LED Connectors. Open the connector by lifting the clear plastic tab.
  3. Slide the end of the LED strip (or cable) into the connector, ensuring the copper pads on the strip align with the metal contacts inside the connector.
  4. Press down the clear plastic tab firmly until it clicks into place, securing the connection.

4.3. Mounting the LED Strips

  1. Clean the mounting surface thoroughly. Ensure it is dry and free of dust, grease, or debris. For best adhesion, wipe the surface with rubbing alcohol and let it dry.
  2. Peel off the protective backing from the 3M adhesive on the back of the LED strip.
  3. Carefully press the LED strip onto the desired surface, applying firm, even pressure along its entire length.
  4. For added security, especially on vertical or frequently touched surfaces, use the provided clips and screws to secure the LED strip.

4.4. Connecting Power

  1. Connect the on/off switch to the LED strip system. The switch has a male and female DC barrel connector.
  2. Connect the 2 Amp Power Supply to the on/off switch.
  3. Plug the power supply into a standard electrical outlet.

5. Operating Instructions

Once installed and connected to power, operating your Inspired LED lighting system is simple:

  • Turning On/Off: Use the integrated on/off switch to control the lighting.
  • Dimmable Feature: This kit is dimmable. If you wish to utilize dimming functionality, you will need to integrate a compatible 12V DC dimmer (sold separately) between the power supply and the LED strips. Refer to the dimmer's instructions for proper installation.

6. Maintenance

The Inspired LED Flex LED Kit requires minimal maintenance to ensure long-lasting performance.

  • Cleaning: Ensure the power is off before cleaning. Gently wipe the LED strips and connectors with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals. Avoid getting water directly on the LED strips or electrical components.
  • Adhesion: If the adhesive backing begins to lose its grip over time, you can reinforce the strips using the provided clips and screws, or by applying additional double-sided adhesive tape suitable for LED strips.
  • Connection Check: Periodically check all connections (Tiger Paw connectors, interconnect cables, power supply) to ensure they are secure.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Inspired LED Flex LED Kit, refer to the table below for common problems and solutions.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
LEDs do not light up.
  • No power to the outlet.
  • Loose connection.
  • Faulty power supply.
  • Incorrectly connected LED strip/connector.
  • LED strip cut incorrectly.
  • Check the power outlet with another device.
  • Ensure all connections (power supply, switch, connectors) are secure.
  • Test the power supply if possible, or try a known working 12V DC power supply.
  • Verify that the LED strip is inserted correctly into the Tiger Paw connector, with copper pads aligned.
  • Ensure the LED strip was cut precisely at the designated copper pads.
LEDs flicker or are dim.
  • Loose connection.
  • Insufficient power supply (too many strips for the 2A supply).
  • Damaged LED strip.
  • Check all connections for tightness.
  • Ensure the total wattage of your LED strips does not exceed the power supply's capacity (20W for 2A @ 12V). Consider a higher amperage power supply if needed.
  • Inspect the LED strip for visible damage.
Adhesive not sticking.
  • Surface not clean or dry.
  • Surface texture.
  • Thoroughly clean and dry the surface before application.
  • Use the provided clips and screws for a more secure mounting, especially on porous or uneven surfaces.
