4. Setup
4.1 Powering the Microphone
The C1000S can be powered in two ways:
- Phantom Power: Connect the microphone to an audio interface or mixer that provides 48V phantom power via an XLR cable.
- AA Batteries: If phantom power is unavailable, the microphone can be powered by two standard AA batteries. To install or replace batteries, carefully unscrew the top section of the microphone to reveal the battery compartment. Ensure correct polarity when inserting batteries.

4.2 Connecting the Microphone
Connect the microphone to your audio equipment (mixer, audio interface) using a standard XLR cable. The gold-sputtered XLR pins ensure a reliable connection and high immunity against humidity.

4.3 Mounting the Microphone
Attach the microphone to a stand using the included SA63 Stand Adaptor. Ensure the microphone is securely fastened to prevent accidental drops.
5. Operating the Microphone
5.1 On/Off Switch
The microphone features an on/off switch located on its body. Slide the switch to the 'ON' position to activate the microphone. For battery-powered operation, ensure the switch is in the 'OFF' position when not in use to conserve battery life.
5.2 Bass Cut and 10 dB Pad
The C1000S includes internal switches for a bass-cut filter and a 10 dB pad. These can be accessed by unscrewing the microphone's top section. The bass-cut filter helps reduce unwanted low-frequency noise, while the 10 dB pad is useful for recording loud sound sources without distortion.

5.3 Polar Pattern Adjustment (PPC1000 Converter)
The included PPC1000 Polar Pattern Converter allows you to switch the microphone's pickup pattern. By default, the microphone operates in a cardioid pattern. Attaching the converter changes it to a hypercardioid pattern, offering increased directionality and rejection of off-axis sounds.

5.4 Frequency Settings (PB1000 Presence Boost Adapter)
The PB1000 Presence Boost Adapter provides three different frequency settings. This adapter can be used to enhance clarity for specific sound sources, such as speech or certain instruments, by subtly shaping the frequency response.

6. Maintenance
6.1 Battery Replacement
If using AA batteries, replace them regularly to ensure optimal performance and prevent leakage. Old or depleted batteries can leak corrosive fluid, potentially damaging the microphone's internal components. Always remove batteries if the microphone will not be used for an extended period.
6.2 Cleaning
Clean the microphone's exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using liquid cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the finish or internal electronics. The grille can be gently cleaned with a soft brush to remove dust or debris.
6.3 Storage
Store the microphone in its included bag or a padded case to protect it from dust, moisture, and physical damage. Avoid exposing the microphone to extreme temperatures or high humidity.
7. Troubleshooting
- No Sound Output:
- Check if the microphone's on/off switch is in the 'ON' position.
- Verify that phantom power is enabled on your mixer/interface, or that fresh AA batteries are correctly installed.
- Ensure the XLR cable is securely connected at both ends and is not faulty.
- Check input gain levels on your audio equipment.
- Poor Sound Quality/Distortion:
- If the sound source is very loud, engage the 10 dB pad switch.
- Ensure the microphone is positioned correctly relative to the sound source.
- Check for any interference from other electronic devices.
- Consider using the W1001 windscreen to reduce plosives or wind noise.
- Excessive Low-Frequency Noise:
- Engage the bass-cut filter switch to reduce unwanted rumble or proximity effect.
