5. Operating the Lens
5.1 Autofocus (AF)
The ZEISS Touit 2.8/12 lens features a fast and accurate autofocus system. Ensure your camera's focus mode is set to AF (Autofocus) for automatic focusing. The lens is designed for smooth and quiet operation, making it suitable for both photography and video recording.
5.2 Manual Focus (MF)
For precise control, switch your camera's focus mode to MF (Manual Focus). Rotate the focus ring on the lens barrel to adjust focus. Your camera's focus peaking and magnification features can assist in achieving critical focus.
5.3 Aperture Control
The aperture (f/2.8 to f/22) can be controlled directly from your camera body. Adjusting the aperture changes the depth of field and the amount of light entering the lens. A wider aperture (smaller f-number like f/2.8) creates a shallower depth of field, ideal for isolating subjects. A narrower aperture (larger f-number like f/22) provides a greater depth of field, suitable for landscapes.

7. Maintenance
7.1 Cleaning the Lens
- Use a soft, lint-free cloth or a lens brush to remove dust and loose particles from the lens surfaces.
- For stubborn smudges or fingerprints, apply a small amount of lens cleaning fluid to a clean lens cloth and gently wipe the lens in a circular motion.
- Never use abrasive materials or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the lens coatings.
7.2 Storage
- When not in use, always attach the front and rear lens caps to protect the optical elements.
- Store the lens in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- If storing for an extended period, consider using a dehumidifying agent to prevent mold growth.
8. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Lens not attaching to camera | Incorrect alignment or obstruction | Ensure index marks are aligned and rotate gently until it clicks. Check for any debris on the mount. |
| Autofocus not working | Camera set to Manual Focus (MF) or poor lighting conditions | Switch camera to Autofocus (AF) mode. Ensure sufficient light for the AF system to operate. |
| Images are blurry | Incorrect focus, camera shake, or dirty lens | Check focus settings (AF/MF). Use a faster shutter speed or tripod. Clean the lens surfaces. |
| Excessive flare/ghosting | Strong light source hitting the front element | Ensure the lens shade is properly attached. Reposition to avoid direct light sources. |
