5. Installation Instructions
Before You Begin:
- Turn off power at the circuit breaker or fuse box.
- Ensure you have all necessary tools: measuring tape, drywall saw, wire strippers, screwdriver, safety glasses.
- Verify that the ceiling material thickness is compatible (3/8", 1/2", or 5/8").
5.1. Prepare the Ceiling Opening
- Determine the desired location for each recessed light fixture.
- Using a template or the fixture itself, mark a 3-inch diameter circle on the ceiling.
- Carefully cut the marked circle using a drywall saw. Ensure the hole is precise to allow the fixture to fit snugly.
5.2. Wiring the Fixture
Access above the ceiling is required for proper wiring and installation.
- Open the junction box cover on the top of the recessed light fixture.
- Remove the appropriate knockout(s) for your electrical cable entry.
- Feed the electrical supply cable (rated for 90°C minimum) into the junction box. Ensure the cable is secured with a suitable cable connector (not included).
- Connect the house wiring to the fixture wiring using appropriate wire connectors (not included):
- Connect the black (hot) wire from the supply to the black wire of the fixture.
- Connect the white (neutral) wire from the supply to the white wire of the fixture.
- Connect the bare copper or green (ground) wire from the supply to the green ground screw or wire in the junction box.
- Carefully tuck all wires into the junction box and secure the cover.
5.3. Mounting the Fixture
- Insert the wired recessed light fixture into the prepared ceiling opening.
- Engage the remodel clips by pushing them outwards until they firmly grip the ceiling material. These clips are designed to secure the fixture in place for 3/8", 1/2", and 5/8" thick wallboard.
- Ensure the fixture is flush with the ceiling surface.
5.4. Bulb Installation
- Screw the provided 50-watt E26 base bulb into the socket within the swivel trim. Do not overtighten.
- Adjust the swivel trim to direct the light as desired.
6. Operation
Once installation is complete and power is restored, the recessed light fixture can be operated via a standard wall switch (toggle type) or a compatible touch control system. The swivel trim allows for directional light adjustment after installation.
7. Maintenance
7.1. Cleaning
To clean the fixture, ensure power is off. Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as they may damage the finish.
7.2. Bulb Replacement
To replace a bulb:
- Turn off power to the fixture at the circuit breaker.
- Allow the bulb to cool completely before handling.
- Carefully unscrew the old bulb from the socket.
- Screw in a new E26 base bulb of the same wattage (50W) or a compatible LED equivalent. Ensure the replacement bulb's specifications are suitable for recessed lighting and the fixture's rating.
- Restore power and test the light.
8. Troubleshooting
If your recessed light fixture is not functioning correctly, refer to the following common issues:
- Light does not turn on:
- Check if the power is on at the circuit breaker.
- Ensure the bulb is securely screwed into the socket and is not burnt out.
- Verify all wire connections in the junction box are secure.
- Light flickers:
- Check for loose wire connections.
- Ensure the bulb is fully seated.
- If using a dimmer, ensure it is compatible with the bulb type.
- Fixture is loose in ceiling:
- Ensure the remodel clips are fully engaged and gripping the ceiling material.
If these steps do not resolve the issue, consult a qualified electrician.
