Setup and Installation

Proper installation ensures maximum protection and longevity of your SBU Motorcycle Cover. Follow these steps for optimal fitment:

  1. Ensure Motorcycle is Cool: Before covering, ensure your motorcycle's exhaust pipes and engine are cool to the touch. The cover features a heat-resistant liner, but it is best practice to allow components to cool down to prevent damage to the cover or motorcycle finish.
  2. Position the Cover: Unfold the cover and identify the front and rear. The cover is designed to fit the contours of your motorcycle.
  3. Drape Over Motorcycle: Carefully drape the cover over your motorcycle, starting from the front. Ensure the handlebars and mirrors are properly accommodated.
  4. Adjust for Snug Fit: Pull the cover down evenly on all sides. The elastic hemline at the bottom will help secure the cover around the base of the motorcycle, providing a snug fit.
  5. Secure with Tie-Down Cords: Utilize the two included hooked elastic tie-down cords. Locate the built-in grommets near the bottom of the cover. Attach the hooks through the grommets and secure them under the motorcycle to prevent the cover from lifting in windy conditions.

  6. Utilize Security Lock (Optional): If desired, pass a security lock or chain (not included) through the reinforced grommets for added theft deterrence.

Important Note on Fitment: This cover is designed for the base model Harley-Davidson SOFTAIL FLSTFI FAT BOY. If your motorcycle has significant modifications such as a sissy bar, ape hangers, saddlebags, large fairings, or an extra tall windshield, the fitment may vary. Such modifications might require a larger size cover not specifically listed for this model.

Operating and Usage

The SBU Motorcycle Cover is intended for stationary outdoor protection. It is not designed or rated for travel use. Do not trailer your motorcycle with the cover installed.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Cover does not fit snugly.Motorcycle modifications (sissy bar, large fairings, etc.) or incorrect model.Ensure the cover is for the correct base model. If modifications are present, a larger size may be required. Ensure elastic hem is fully engaged.
Cover lifts off in wind.Tie-down cords not used or not secured properly.Always use the provided hooked elastic tie-down cords through the grommets and secure them under the motorcycle. Ensure air vents are clear.
Condensation under cover.Insufficient airflow or motorcycle not fully cooled before covering.Ensure motorcycle is cool and dry before covering. Verify air vents are not obstructed. The cover's breathable fabric and vents are designed to minimize this.
Cover appears damaged by heat.Motorcycle covered while exhaust/engine was hot.Always allow motorcycle components to cool completely before applying the cover. The heat-resistant liner provides protection but is not foolproof against extreme heat.
