3. Setup Instructions
3.1 Unpacking
- Carefully remove the wheelchair and all components from the packaging.
- Inspect for any visible damage during shipping. Contact your supplier immediately if damage is found.
- Ensure all listed components are present: wheelchair frame, two elevating legrest assemblies.
3.2 Unfolding the Wheelchair
- Place the folded wheelchair on a flat, level surface.
- Grasp the top of the handgrips and gently pull them apart.
- Push down on the seat rails until the seat is fully open and flat. Ensure the cross-braces are fully extended and locked.
3.3 Attaching Elevating Legrests
- Align the two pins on the legrest assembly with the corresponding holes on the frame's front rigging.
- Swing the legrest outward slightly, then push the pins into the holes.
- Swing the legrest inward towards the front of the wheelchair until it locks into place. A click indicates it is secure.
- To adjust the height of the footplate, press the spring-loaded button on the legrest extension and slide the footplate up or down to the desired position. Release the button to lock.
- To elevate the legrest, lift the lever on the side of the legrest and adjust to the desired angle. Release the lever to lock.
3.4 Checking Wheel Locks
Before initial use, ensure both wheel locks engage securely. Push the lock lever forward until it firmly presses against the tire. The wheel should not move. Adjust if necessary by consulting a qualified technician.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Folding the Wheelchair
- Ensure the wheel locks are engaged.
- Remove the legrests by pulling the release lever and swinging them outward, then lifting them off the frame.
- Grasp the center of the seat upholstery (or the seat rails) and pull upwards. The wheelchair will begin to fold.
- Continue pulling until the wheelchair is fully folded for transport or storage.
4.2 Propelling the Wheelchair
- Self-Propulsion: Grasp the handrims on the large rear wheels. Push forward on both handrims simultaneously to move straight, or push harder on one side to turn.
- Assisted Propulsion: A caregiver can push the wheelchair using the handgrips on the backrest. Ensure the user's feet are securely on the footplates.
4.3 Using Wheel Locks (Brakes)
To engage the wheel locks, push the lever located near the rear wheels forward until it clicks into place and the wheel is immobilized. To release, pull the lever backward. Always engage both wheel locks when stationary or transferring.
4.4 Transferring In and Out of the Wheelchair
- Position the wheelchair as close as possible to the transfer surface (bed, chair, toilet).
- Engage both wheel locks securely.
- Swing away or remove the legrests to clear the transfer path.
- If possible, use an assistive device (e.g., transfer board) and/or seek assistance from a caregiver.
- Lean forward, push off the armrests, and carefully pivot to the transfer surface. Reverse the process to transfer back into the wheelchair.
5. Maintenance and Care
5.1 Cleaning
- Wipe down the frame and upholstery regularly with a damp cloth and mild soap.
- Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the finish or upholstery.
- Ensure the wheelchair is completely dry before storage or next use.
5.2 Inspection
Perform a visual inspection of the wheelchair monthly or before extended periods of use:
- Check all nuts, bolts, and fasteners for tightness.
- Inspect tires for wear and ensure they are free of debris.
- Verify that wheel locks engage and disengage smoothly and securely.
- Examine upholstery for tears or excessive wear.
