Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the GIVI PLR1110 Tubular Pannier Holder. This product is specifically designed for the Honda VFR1200X/XD Cross Tourer motorcycle. Please read these instructions carefully before proceeding with installation to ensure proper fitment and safe use.
Safety Information
- Always ensure the motorcycle is stable on its stand before beginning installation.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as gloves and eye protection.
- Do not exceed the maximum load capacity specified for your motorcycle or the pannier system.
- Regularly check all fasteners for tightness, especially after the first few rides and before long journeys.
- If you are unsure about any part of the installation process, consult a qualified mechanic.
What's Included
Verify that all components are present before starting the installation:
- 1x GIVI PLR1110 Tubular Pannier Holder (Left and Right frames)
- Mounting hardware kit (bolts, washers, spacers, etc.) - Specific components may vary, refer to the included parts list in your package.
Setup and Installation
The GIVI PLR1110 pannier holder is designed for motorcycle-specific fitment. Follow these general steps for installation. Refer to the detailed diagram provided with your product for exact bolt locations and torque specifications.
- Prepare the Motorcycle: Park the Honda VFR1200X/XD Cross Tourer on a stable, level surface using its center stand or a paddock stand. Ensure the engine is off and cool.
- Identify Mounting Points: Locate the designated mounting points on the rear frame of your motorcycle. These typically involve existing bolt holes near the passenger footpegs and under the rear rack/fender.
- Attach Lower Brackets: Secure the lower sections of the pannier holder frames to the motorcycle's frame using the provided bolts and spacers. Do not fully tighten at this stage.
- Attach Upper Brackets: Connect the upper sections of the pannier holder frames to the motorcycle's rear rack or subframe. Again, hand-tighten only.
- Align and Tighten: Once both sides of the pannier holder are loosely attached, ensure they are properly aligned and symmetrical. Gradually tighten all bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque settings, working in a cross-pattern if applicable.
- Final Check: Verify that the pannier holder is securely mounted and does not interfere with any moving parts of the motorcycle (e.g., suspension, chain, wheel).

Figure 1: GIVI PLR1110 Pannier Holder Installation and Removal. The left side of the image displays the tubular pannier holder securely installed on the rear of a motorcycle. The right side shows the same motorcycle with the pannier holder removed, highlighting a quick-release attachment point circled in red near the exhaust. A large red arrow indicates the direction of removal.
Operating Instructions
Attaching Hard Panniers
The GIVI PLR1110 system is designed to securely hold GIVI Monokey side cases. To attach your panniers:
- Align the mounting points on the back of your GIVI pannier with the corresponding attachment points on the PLR1110 holder.
- Engage the lower hooks of the pannier onto the lower bar of the holder.
- Push the pannier firmly against the holder until the upper locking mechanism clicks into place.
- Use your GIVI key to lock the pannier to the holder, ensuring it is secure before riding.
Detaching Hard Panniers
To remove your GIVI Monokey side cases:
- Unlock the pannier using your GIVI key.
- Press the quick-release button or lever (location varies by pannier model, typically near the lock).
- Lift the pannier upwards and away from the holder.
Quick-Release Functionality (PLR System)
The PLR system allows for quick removal of the entire pannier holder structure when not in use. This feature is indicated by the red circle in Figure 1. To remove the holder:
- Ensure no panniers are attached.
- Locate the quick-release screws/fasteners (often quarter-turn fasteners) at the designated points (e.g., near the exhaust, as shown in Figure 1).
- Unfasten these quick-release points.
- Carefully detach the pannier holder frames from the motorcycle. Store them safely when not in use.
- To re-attach, reverse the steps, ensuring all quick-release fasteners are securely engaged.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Clean the pannier holder with mild soap and water. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the finish.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect the entire structure for any signs of wear, damage, or corrosion. Check all welds and connection points.
- Fastener Check: Regularly check the tightness of all mounting bolts. Vibrations from riding can cause fasteners to loosen over time.
- Lubrication: If the quick-release mechanisms feel stiff, apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Pannier holder feels loose after installation. | Mounting bolts not fully tightened. | Re-tighten all mounting bolts to the specified torque. |
| Panniers do not attach securely. | Incorrect alignment or obstruction. | Ensure pannier mounting points align perfectly with the holder. Check for any debris or obstructions. |
| Difficulty with quick-release mechanism. | Mechanism is stiff or dirty. | Clean and apply a silicone-based lubricant to the quick-release points. |
