Setup
Unboxing and Initial Inspection
Upon receiving your Fossil FS4788 watch, carefully remove it from its packaging. Inspect the watch for any visible damage or defects. Ensure all protective films are removed from the crystal and case back.

Setting the Time and Date
- Pull out the crown: Gently pull the crown (the knob on the side of the watch case) to position 2 for setting the date, or position 3 for setting the time. Refer to Figure 3 for crown location.
- Set the date (if applicable): If your watch has a date display, rotate the crown in position 2 until the correct date is shown.
- Set the time: Rotate the crown in position 3 to move the hour and minute hands. Ensure you set the correct AM/PM time, as this affects the date change.
- Push in the crown: Once the time and date are set, push the crown back into position 1 (normal operating position) to start the watch movement.

Operating the Chronograph
Your Fossil FS4788 watch features a chronograph function, allowing you to measure elapsed time. The chronograph is operated using the two pushers located above and below the crown.

Chronograph Functions:
- Start/Stop: Press the top pusher (A) to start the chronograph. Press it again to stop the chronograph.
- Reset: While the chronograph is stopped, press the bottom pusher (B) to reset all chronograph hands back to their zero positions.
- Sub-dials: The three sub-dials typically measure seconds, minutes, and hours of elapsed time. Refer to the specific markings on your dial for precise readings.
Note: The large second hand on the main dial is usually for the chronograph function, while a smaller sub-dial often indicates the running seconds for the main timekeeping.
Maintenance
Cleaning Your Watch
To maintain the appearance of your watch, regularly wipe the case and crystal with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. For the leather strap, avoid prolonged exposure to water, direct sunlight, and harsh chemicals, as these can cause damage or discoloration.
Battery Replacement
Your Fossil FS4788 watch is powered by a Lithium Metal battery. When the watch stops running, it indicates that the battery needs replacement. It is recommended to have the battery replaced by an authorized Fossil service center or a qualified watchmaker to ensure proper sealing and functionality.
Water Resistance
While your watch may offer some level of water resistance, it is important to check the specific water resistance rating engraved on the case back. Avoid operating the crown or pushers when the watch is wet to prevent water ingress. Leather straps are generally not designed for water immersion.

Troubleshooting
- Watch not running: Check if the crown is fully pushed in. If it is, the battery may need replacement.
- Time is inaccurate: Ensure the crown is fully pushed in. If the time continues to be inaccurate, the watch may require servicing.
- Chronograph hands not resetting to zero: This may require a chronograph hand alignment procedure, which can often be done by pulling the crown to a specific position and using the pushers to adjust the hands. Refer to a detailed watch manual or consult a watchmaker if this issue persists.
- Condensation under crystal: This indicates moisture ingress. Immediately take the watch to a qualified watchmaker for inspection and repair to prevent further damage.
