2. Important Safety Information

Please read and understand all safety instructions before operating the DF-50 Hazer. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury, damage to the unit, or voiding of the warranty.

  • Fluid Use: Only use genuine Diffusion™ Fog Fluid with this unit. Using unauthorized fluids can cause damage, poor performance, and health hazards.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit during operation. Do not block any vents.
  • Electrical Safety: Connect the unit to a grounded power outlet. Do not operate with a damaged power cord. Disconnect power before servicing.
  • Placement: Place the hazer on a stable, level surface. Keep away from flammable materials and liquids.
  • Operation: Do not touch the nozzle during operation as it can become hot. Avoid direct exposure to the haze output at close range.
  • Storage: Store the unit in a cool, dry place when not in use.

3. Package Contents

Verify that all items are present in the package:

  • Reel EFX DF-50 DMX Diffusion Hazer Unit
  • Power Cable
  • User Manual (this document)

4. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your DF-50 Hazer:

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the hazer from its packaging. Retain packaging for future transport or storage.
  2. Placement: Position the hazer on a flat, stable, and heat-resistant surface. Ensure there is at least 12 inches (30 cm) of clear space around all sides for proper ventilation.
  3. Fluid Reservoir: Unscrew the cap of the fluid reservoir. Carefully pour Diffusion™ Fog Fluid into the reservoir, ensuring not to overfill. Do not fill above the 'MAX' line or below the 'MIN' line. Securely replace the cap.
  4. Power Connection: Connect the provided power cable to the power inlet on the rear of the unit and then to a suitable grounded electrical outlet (110V).
  5. DMX Connection (Optional): If using DMX control, connect a DMX cable from your DMX controller to the DMX IN port on the hazer. If linking multiple units, connect from the DMX OUT of the first unit to the DMX IN of the next.

5. Operating Instructions

Once the unit is set up, follow these steps for operation:

  1. Power On: Flip the main power switch to the 'ON' position. The unit will begin its warm-up cycle. This typically takes a few minutes. The 'READY' indicator will illuminate when the unit is ready to produce haze.
  2. DMX Control:
    • DMX Address: Set the DMX start address using the controls on the rear panel. Refer to your DMX controller's manual for addressing procedures.
    • DMX Channels: The DF-50 typically uses one DMX channel for haze output control. A value of 0-255 on this channel will correspond to 0-100% haze output. Consult the unit's DMX chart for specific channel assignments.
  3. Manual Control (if available): Some models may feature a manual output knob or button. Adjust as needed for desired haze density.
  4. Haze Output: Once the unit is ready, activate haze output via your DMX controller or manual controls. Monitor the haze density and adjust as required.
  5. Power Off: When finished, turn the main power switch to the 'OFF' position. Allow the unit to cool down before moving or storing.

  • Fluid System: If the unit will be stored for an extended period, it is recommended to run a small amount of distilled water through the system to prevent clogs. Consult Reel EFX for specific cleaning fluid recommendations if needed.
  • Air Filter: Check and clean the air filter (if present) regularly to ensure proper airflow and prevent overheating.
  • Fluid Storage: Store Diffusion™ Fog Fluid in a cool, dark place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
