4. Setup
4.1 Physical Installation
The ADTRAN MX2800 is designed for rack-mounting. Secure the unit in a standard 19-inch equipment rack using appropriate mounting hardware (not included).
4.2 Rear Panel Connections
Refer to the diagram below for an overview of the rear panel connections.

Figure 4.2.1: Rear Panel Layout of the ADTRAN MX2800.
This image displays the rear panel of the ADTRAN MX2800 Multiplexor. From left to right, it features LAN and Modem ports (RJ45), DS3/STS-1 BNC connectors (OUT and IN, labeled A and B), DSX-1/E1 ports (OUT and IN) with multi-pin connectors, DC Power inputs (-48V, 0.7A) with PWR, FAIL, and RET terminals for two redundant power feeds (A and B), a terminal block for T, R, S, CLK connections (A and B), and a 115 AC 50/60Hz 0.8A power inlet.
4.3 Power Connection
Connect the appropriate power source to the unit:
- DC Power: For redundant DC power, connect -48V DC power supplies to the "DC POWER" terminals (A and B). Ensure correct polarity for PWR, FAIL, and RET connections. The unit requires 0.7A per feed.
- AC Power: Connect a standard 115V AC, 50/60Hz, 0.8A power cord to the AC inlet on the far right.
4.4 Network Connections
- LAN/Modem: Connect standard Ethernet cables to the LAN and Modem RJ45 ports for management access. The "NONCRITICAL" and "CRITICAL" alarm contacts are also located near these ports.
- DS3/STS-1: Use BNC cables to connect DS3/STS-1 signals to the "OUT" and "IN" ports (A and B).
- DSX-1/E1: Connect DSX-1/E1 lines to the multi-pin "OUT" and "IN" connectors.
- T, R, S, CLK: Utilize the terminal block for connecting external timing and signaling lines as required for your specific network configuration.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Initial Power-Up
Once all connections are secure, apply power to the unit. Observe the front panel indicators (if any, not shown in image) for power and operational status.
5.2 Configuration and Management
The ADTRAN MX2800 can be managed via SNMP or Telnet:
- SNMP: For network management systems, configure the device's IP address and SNMP community strings. Refer to the ADTRAN SNMP MIB documentation for detailed information.
- Telnet: Access the command-line interface (CLI) by connecting to the device's IP address via Telnet. Use the CLI for detailed configuration, status monitoring, and troubleshooting.
