Setup and Installation
This section outlines the general steps for installing the Watco IPS 62070 bathtub drain. Specific details may vary based on your bathtub and existing plumbing.
- Prepare the Bathtub: Ensure the bathtub is clean and free of debris around the drain and overflow openings.
- Install Overflow Assembly: Attach the overflow plate and gasket to the overflow opening of the bathtub. Connect the overflow tube (not included) to the overflow assembly.
- Install Drain Shoe: Apply plumber's putty or a silicone sealant around the underside of the drain flange. Insert the drain flange into the bathtub's drain opening. From underneath the tub, thread the drain shoe onto the drain flange, tightening securely.
- Connect Piping: Connect the overflow tube and the drain shoe to the appropriate ABS or PVC piping (not included) leading to your main drain line. Ensure all connections are watertight.
- Test for Leaks: Once all connections are made, fill the bathtub with water and check thoroughly for any leaks around the drain, overflow, and all pipe connections. Tighten any leaking connections as necessary.
Operating
The Watco IPS 62070 bathtub drain functions as a standard waste and overflow system. To fill the tub, ensure the drain stopper (if applicable and purchased separately) is closed. To drain the tub, open the stopper. The overflow opening prevents the tub from overflowing if the water level rises too high.
Maintenance
Regular cleaning will help maintain the appearance and function of your drain.
- Cleaning: Clean the chrome finish regularly with a soft cloth and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive pads, or scouring agents, as these can damage the finish.
- Preventing Clogs: Use a hair catcher or drain protector to prevent hair and debris from entering the drain, which can cause clogs.
- Addressing Clogs: If a clog occurs, try using a drain snake or a chemical drain cleaner specifically designed for plumbing systems. Follow the product instructions carefully. Avoid excessive force when clearing clogs to prevent damage to the drain assembly or pipes.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Slow draining | Hair or debris buildup in the drain. | Remove the drain stopper and clear any visible obstructions. Use a drain snake or chemical cleaner. |
| Water leaking from drain/overflow connections | Loose connections or improperly sealed gaskets. | Tighten all connections. Ensure plumber's putty or sealant was applied correctly during installation. Reapply if necessary. |
| Finish discoloration or damage | Use of abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals. | Clean only with mild, non-abrasive cleaners and a soft cloth. Damage from harsh chemicals is often irreversible. |
