1. Introduction and Overview
The Quickmill QM67 is a high-quality dual boiler espresso machine designed for enthusiasts seeking precise control over their coffee brewing and milk steaming. Constructed from durable #304 stainless steel, this machine features an E-61 commercial group head and two independent copper boilers for coffee and steam.
Key features include a PID controller for both the group boiler and steam boiler, allowing for temperature adjustments in 1.0 degree Celsius or Fahrenheit increments. A PID display with a shot timer assists in consistent espresso extraction. The machine also includes a cup warmer, stainless steel steam and hot water arms, and a large pull-out stainless steel drip tray for convenience.

2. Safety Instructions
- Read all instructions before using the appliance.
- Do not immerse the appliance, cord, or plug in water or other liquids.
- Ensure the power outlet matches the voltage specified on the machine's rating label.
- Always unplug the machine from the power outlet before cleaning or when not in use.
- Do not operate the machine with a damaged cord or plug. Contact qualified service personnel for repair.
- Keep hands and cords away from hot surfaces, including the group head, steam wand, and hot water spout.
- Use only cold, fresh water in the water reservoir.
- This appliance is for household use only.
3. Setup
3.1 Unpacking
Carefully remove the espresso machine and all accessories from the packaging. Retain the packaging for future transport or storage. Check for any visible damage.
3.2 Placement
Place the machine on a stable, level, and heat-resistant surface. Ensure there is adequate ventilation around the machine, especially above the cup warmer. Avoid placing it near heat sources or in direct sunlight.
3.3 Filling the Water Reservoir
The QM67 features a hinged cover for easy access to the water tank. Lift the hinged cover and remove the water reservoir. Fill the reservoir with fresh, cold, filtered water up to the MAX line. Do not use distilled water as it can interfere with the machine's water level sensors. Replace the reservoir securely.

3.4 Initial Power-On and Boiler Filling
- Ensure the water reservoir is filled.
- Plug the machine into a grounded electrical outlet.
- Turn on the main power switch. The pump will activate to fill the coffee boiler.
- Once the coffee boiler is filled, the heating element will begin to heat the water.
- Turn on the steam boiler power switch. The pump will activate again to fill the steam boiler.
- Allow the machine to heat up completely. This typically takes 15-20 minutes for both boilers to reach operating temperature. The PID display will show the current temperature.
3.5 Priming the Group Head
After initial heat-up, lift the brew lever for 10-15 seconds to allow water to flow through the group head. This primes the system and ensures proper water flow for brewing. Repeat this step if the machine has been off for an extended period.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Adjusting PID Settings
The QM67 features a PID controller for both the coffee and steam boilers. Refer to the specific PID controller manual for detailed instructions on adjusting temperature settings. The PID allows for precise temperature control, adjustable in 1.0 degree Celsius or Fahrenheit increments.
4.2 Brewing Espresso
- Ensure the machine is fully heated and the coffee boiler has reached its set temperature.
- Grind fresh coffee beans to an espresso-fine consistency.
- Dose the appropriate amount of ground coffee into the portafilter basket.
- Tamp the coffee evenly with firm pressure.
- Wipe any loose grounds from the portafilter rim.
- Insert the portafilter into the E-61 group head and lock it securely.
- Place your espresso cup(s) under the portafilter spouts.
- Lift the brew lever fully to start the extraction. The PID display will show the shot timer.
- Monitor the extraction. A typical espresso shot takes 25-30 seconds for 1.5-2 oz.
- Lower the brew lever to stop the extraction.
- Remove the portafilter, discard the spent coffee puck, and rinse the portafilter.

4.3 Steaming Milk
Ensure the steam boiler is at its operating temperature and pressure. The QM67 is equipped with a stainless steel steam wand and a 1.0mm two-hole steam tip.
- Purge the steam wand briefly into the drip tray to clear any condensed water.
- Immerse the steam tip just below the surface of cold milk in a stainless steel pitcher.
- Open the steam valve fully.
- Angle the pitcher to create a whirlpool effect, incorporating air for texture.
- Once the desired volume and texture are achieved, lower the steam tip deeper into the milk to heat it to approximately 140-150°F (60-65°C).
- Close the steam valve and immediately wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth. Purge the wand again to clear any milk residue.
Important Note on Dual Boiler Operation: The heating elements for the coffee and steam boilers in the QM67 do not operate simultaneously to prevent overloading standard power outlets. When the coffee boiler's heating element is active, the steam boiler's heating element will sit idle. This means that if you attempt to steam milk immediately after or during an espresso extraction, the steam boiler's pressure may drop significantly, affecting milk frothing quality. For optimal results, allow the steam boiler to fully recharge and reach its set pressure before steaming milk, especially after a coffee extraction.
4.4 Hot Water Dispensing
Place a cup under the hot water spout. Open the hot water valve to dispense hot water. Close the valve when finished.
5. Maintenance
5.1 Daily Cleaning
- Drip Tray: Empty and rinse the drip tray daily.
- Portafilter: After each use, remove the spent coffee puck, rinse the portafilter and basket thoroughly.
- Group Head: After removing the portafilter, lift and lower the brew lever briefly to flush the group head. Use a group head brush to clean any coffee grounds from the group gasket.
- Steam Wand: Immediately after steaming milk, wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth and purge it briefly to prevent milk residue buildup.
5.2 Weekly Cleaning
- Backflushing: Perform a backflush with a blind filter and espresso machine detergent. Follow the detergent manufacturer's instructions.
- Water Reservoir: Remove and thoroughly clean the water reservoir with mild soap and water. Rinse well.
5.3 Descaling
The frequency of descaling depends on your water hardness. It is recommended to descale the machine every 2-3 months with soft water, or more frequently with hard water. Use a descaling solution specifically designed for espresso machines and follow the product's instructions carefully. Regular descaling helps maintain machine performance and longevity.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Machine does not turn on. | No power, faulty power cord, tripped circuit breaker. | Check power connection, try a different outlet, reset circuit breaker. |
| No water flow from group head. | Empty water reservoir, airlock in pump, clogged group head. | Refill reservoir, prime the pump (lift brew lever), clean group head. |
| No steam or low steam pressure. | Steam boiler not heated, steam wand clogged, steam boiler heating element idle. | Ensure steam boiler is on and heated. Clean steam wand. Allow steam boiler to fully recharge after coffee extraction. |
| Espresso extracts too fast/slow. | Grind size too coarse/fine, incorrect dose, tamping pressure. | Adjust grind size, check dose, ensure consistent tamping. |
| Water leaking from machine. | Loose connections, damaged gasket, overfilled drip tray. | Check reservoir and drip tray. If persistent, contact service. |
