- NETGEAR N600 WiFi Range Extender (WN3500RP)
- Power adapter
- Installation Guide
3. Setup Instructions
Follow these steps to set up your NETGEAR N600 WiFi Range Extender. For a seamless installation, it is recommended to complete the basic setup in the same room as your current router.
3.1. Initial Placement and Power On
- Unbox your extender and attach the antennas if they are not already fixed.
- Plug the extender into an electrical outlet in the same room as your WiFi router.
- Wait for the Power LED on the extender to light up solid green.

3.2. Connecting via WPS (Recommended)
WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) is the easiest way to connect your extender to your router.
- First, press the WPS button on your NETGEAR N600 WiFi Range Extender.
- Within two minutes, press the WPS button on your WiFi router.
- The WPS LED on the extender will light up solid green when a good connection is established between your WiFi router and your extender.
- If your WiFi router supports the 5GHz band and you wish to extend this band, repeat the WPS process for the 5GHz band.
If your router does not support WPS, or if you encounter issues, refer to the "Setup Later" option in the video or the full manual for browser-based setup instructions.
3.3. Optimal Placement of the Extender
After initial setup, unplug the extender and move it to a new location that is about halfway between your router and the area with a poor WiFi signal. The chosen location must be within range of your existing WiFi router network.
- Plug the extender into an electrical outlet in the desired location.
- Wait for the Power LED to light green.
- Use the Router Link LED on the extender to help you choose a location where the extender-to-router connection is optimal.
- If the Router Link LED lights amber or green, you have found a good location for the extender.
- If the LED lights red, plug the extender into an outlet closer to the router and try again. Moving the extender closer to the router will improve the connection but may reduce your extender's coverage.
3.4. Wireless Connections
Once you've found a good location for your extender, connect your client device (e.g., laptop, smartphone) using the new network name. The extender uses your existing WiFi name and adds "_2GEXT" or "_5GEXT" at the end (e.g., MyNetworkName_2GEXT or MyNetworkName_5GEXT).
- When connecting, ensure you use the same WiFi password as your router.
- If you are using a mobile device, connect in the same room as the extender first, and then move to the area with a poor router WiFi signal.
- Once your devices are connected and placed in the dead zone, return to the extender and check the Client Link LED.
- If the Client Link LED is solid amber or green, your WiFi network has been properly extended to the area with a poor router WiFi signal, and your network setup is complete.
- If the Client Link LED is red, the range extender is not reaching the area with a poor router WiFi signal. If possible, move your client device closer to the extender until the Client Link LED turns solid green or amber.
Depending on the distance from your router to the dead zone, your extender may not be able to provide all the range that you require. In this situation, consider other solutions such as Powerline adapters.

4. Operating Instructions
Once your NETGEAR N600 WiFi Range Extender is set up, it operates automatically to extend your wireless network. Devices connected to the extended network will experience improved signal strength and coverage.
- Connecting Devices: Connect your wireless devices (smartphones, tablets, laptops, smart TVs, etc.) to the extended WiFi network (e.g., MyNetworkName_2GEXT or MyNetworkName_5GEXT) using your existing router's WiFi password.
- Wired Connection: The extender may include an Ethernet port to connect one wired device, such as a Smart TV, Blu-ray player, or game console, to your network.
- Music Streaming: Utilize the 3.5mm audio port to wirelessly stream music to your audio system, compatible with AirPlay.
5. Maintenance
To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your NETGEAR N600 WiFi Range Extender, consider the following maintenance tips:
- Firmware Updates: Periodically check the NETGEAR support website for firmware updates. Keeping your device's firmware up-to-date ensures the best performance and security.
- Cleaning: Keep the device clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol sprays.
- Ventilation: Ensure the extender is placed in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating. Avoid covering the ventilation holes.
- Power Cycle: If you experience intermittent connectivity issues, try power cycling the extender (unplug it from the outlet, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in).
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your range extender, try the following common troubleshooting steps:
- No Power: Ensure the power adapter is securely connected to the extender and a working electrical outlet. Check if the Power LED is lit.
- Poor Signal Strength: Relocate the extender closer to your main WiFi router. Use the Router Link LED as a guide (amber or green indicates a good connection).
- Cannot Connect to Extended Network:
- Verify that you are selecting the correct extended network name (e.g., MyNetworkName_2GEXT).
- Ensure you are using the correct WiFi password (same as your main router).
- If the Client Link LED is red, move your client device closer to the extender.
- Intermittent Connection: This can sometimes be resolved by power cycling both your main router and the range extender. Ensure there are no physical obstructions or interference sources (like microwaves or cordless phones) near the extender.
- Factory Reset: If all else fails, you may need to perform a factory reset. Locate the reset button (usually a small pinhole) and press and hold it for about 5-10 seconds until the LEDs flash. This will revert the extender to its default settings, and you will need to set it up again.
