It is suitable for lubricating motor vehicles, construction equipment, industrial machinery, and aeronautics.

Key Features:

  • High Pressure Capability: Delivers lubricant at pressures up to 7,500 psi for effective lubrication in demanding industrial applications.
  • Fast Priming System: Features a heavy-duty follower spring for quick and reliable priming, ensuring consistent performance.
  • Dual Leverage Feature: Allows users to switch between high-volume and high-pressure modes, providing flexibility for various tasks.
  • Enhanced Accessibility: Includes an 18-inch flexible hose for reaching grease fittings in confined or difficult-to-access areas.
  • Ergonomic Handle: Designed with a rugged cast handle for comfortable operation and reduced user fatigue during extended use.

Package Contents

Upon unpacking, please ensure all the following items are present:

  • Alemite 555-E Pistol Grip Grease Gun
  • 18" Flexible Hose
  • Coupler

Setup

Before first use, the grease gun must be loaded with lubricant. The Alemite 555-E supports two loading methods: bulk loading or using a grease cartridge.

Loading a Grease Cartridge:

  1. Unscrew the barrel from the head of the grease gun.
  2. Pull the plunger rod all the way back and lock it into place.
  3. Remove the caps from both ends of a standard 16 oz grease cartridge.
  4. Insert the open end of the cartridge into the barrel.
  5. Screw the barrel back onto the head of the grease gun.
  6. Release the plunger rod. The heavy-duty spring will push the follower, priming the gun.

Bulk Loading:

  1. Unscrew the barrel from the head of the grease gun.
  2. Pull the plunger rod all the way back and lock it into place.
  3. Fill the barrel directly with bulk grease.
  4. Screw the barrel back onto the head of the grease gun.
  5. Release the plunger rod.

After loading, ensure the flexible hose and coupler are securely attached to the grease gun's outlet.

Operating Instructions

The Alemite 555-E grease gun offers a dual-mode operation for various lubrication requirements.

Selecting Operating Mode:

  • High-Volume Mode: Use this setting when a larger quantity of grease is needed quickly, such as filling a new bearing chamber. This mode delivers more lubricant per stroke at a lower pressure.
  • High-Pressure Mode: Select this mode for stubborn grease fittings or when maximum pressure is required to push grease into tight spaces. This mode delivers less lubricant per stroke but at a significantly higher pressure (up to 7,500 psi).

The mode selection switch is located on the pistol grip lever mechanism. Adjust it according to your lubrication task.

Applying Grease:

  1. Clean the grease fitting (Zerk fitting) to prevent contaminants from entering the component.
  2. Attach the coupler firmly onto the grease fitting. Ensure a secure connection to prevent leakage.
  3. Squeeze the pistol grip lever repeatedly until fresh grease appears or resistance is felt. For high-pressure applications, apply steady pressure.
  4. Once lubrication is complete, carefully detach the coupler from the fitting.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Alemite 555-E Grease Gun.

  • Cleaning: After each use, wipe down the grease gun, especially the hose and coupler, to remove excess grease and dirt. This prevents contamination of future lubrication points.
  • Storage: Store the grease gun in a clean, dry environment to prevent rust and damage.
  • Hose and Coupler Inspection: Periodically inspect the flexible hose for cracks or damage and the coupler for wear. Replace damaged components to maintain effective lubrication and prevent leaks.
  • Bleeder Valve: The integrated bleeder valve helps release excessive pressure. Ensure it is clear of obstructions.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No grease dispensed
  • Grease gun not primed
  • Empty grease cartridge/barrel
  • Air pocket in the gun
  • Clogged coupler or fitting
  • Ensure plunger rod is fully released after loading.
  • Replace cartridge or refill barrel.
  • Operate the bleeder valve to release trapped air.
  • Clean or replace coupler/fitting.
Grease leaks from coupler
  • Coupler not securely attached
  • Worn or damaged coupler
  • Damaged grease fitting
  • Ensure coupler is pushed firmly onto the fitting.
  • Replace the coupler.
  • Replace the grease fitting.
Difficulty pumping
  • Clogged grease fitting
  • Grease too cold/thick
  • Excessive pressure buildup
  • Switch to high-pressure mode or clean/replace fitting.
  • Warm the grease gun and grease cartridge.
