Setup
1. Battery Installation and Charging
The CP185 radio uses a Lithium Ion battery. Ensure the battery is fully charged before first use.
- Align the battery with the grooves on the back of the radio.
- Slide the battery upwards until it clicks into place.
- To charge, place the radio in the approved Motorola charger. The charging indicator will show the charging status.
2. Antenna Attachment
Screw the antenna clockwise into the connector on top of the radio until it is finger-tight. Do not overtighten.
3. Radio Programming
The CP185 radio requires programming for channel frequencies. The first 16 channels can be programmed free of charge by the seller. If a specific frequency list is not provided, 16 random frequencies will be programmed. Contact your vendor for programming needs.
Operating Instructions
1. Power On/Off and Volume Control
Rotate the On/Off/Volume knob (located on top of the radio) clockwise to turn the radio on and increase the volume. Rotate counter-clockwise to decrease volume and turn off.
2. Channel Selection
Rotate the Channel Selector knob (located on top of the radio, next to the volume knob) to select one of the 16 available channels. The selected channel number will be displayed on the screen.
3. Transmitting and Receiving (Push-to-Talk - PTT)
To transmit, press and hold the PTT button on the side of the radio. Speak clearly into the microphone. Release the PTT button to receive. The radio is VOX capable for hands-free communication, allowing transmission when voice is detected.
4. Programmable Buttons
The CP185 features 5 programmable buttons (P1, P2, P3 on the front, and two on the side) that can be configured for one-touch access to various functions such as voice scrambling, adjustable power levels (high/low), repeater/talkaround capability, and more. Refer to your specific radio's programming for assigned functions.
5. Voice Announcement and Channel Alias
The radio provides voice announcements for battery level and current channel when powered on or when the channel is changed.
