Important Note for California Customers: Due to state regulations beyond our control, orders to California will be cancelled. This is primarily due to restrictions on potting soil entering the state.
2. Setup and Planting Instructions
Upon arrival, it is crucial to water your Palibin Lilac plant immediately. These are outdoor plants and must be planted directly into the ground following these instructions for successful establishment.

Before You Plant:
- Consider the size: When fully grown, the Palibin Lilac can be a multi-stemmed shrub or small tree. Plan for adequate sun exposure (full to part sun) and shade needs. Ensure the soil type is suitable; it tolerates clay soils but sandy soil is also listed as suitable. It thrives in USDA Hardiness Zones 4 through 8.
- Choose the right location: Select a site with enough space for the roots and the crown (top) of the tree to spread. Be mindful of proximity to power lines, buildings, and underground utilities.
- Prepare the soil: Loosen the soil in the planting hole to a depth of at least 12 inches. Remove any weeds or grass. If your soil is heavy clay or poorly drained, consider amending it with compost or other organic matter to improve drainage and nutrient content.
Planting Steps:
- Step 1: Dig the Hole. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball of the plant.
- Step 2: Remove from Pot. Turn the pot upside down and gently remove the plant, being careful not to damage the root system.
- Step 3: Position the Plant. Plant the lilac so that the top of the root ball is even with the existing ground level. Remember to water thoroughly while planting to help settle the soil around the roots.
- Step 4: Backfill and Mulch. Fill the hole with the same soil you removed. Apply pine bark mulch in a 2-4 inch thick ring around the base of the tree, ensuring the mulch does not touch the plant's stem.
- Step 5: Initial Watering. Thoroughly soak the area around the base of the plant. Do NOT water directly on the plant itself. The best way to do this is to use a slow trickle of water for about an hour to ensure deep saturation.
Do not transplant the lilac into another container; it should only be planted directly into the ground.
3. Operating and Care
Proper care is essential for the healthy growth and vibrant blooms of your Palibin Lilac.
Sunlight and Climate:
- The Palibin Lilac thrives in full to part sun exposure.
- It is hardy in USDA Hardiness Zones 4 through 8.
Watering:
- The plant has moderate watering needs. Ensure consistent moisture, especially during dry periods and in its first year of establishment.
- Avoid overwatering, which can lead to root rot.
Soil:
- While it tolerates clay soils, sandy soil is also suitable. Good drainage is key.
Blooming Period:
- Expect beautiful purple blooms in the spring. Some sources also indicate potential for winter blooming, though spring is the primary period.

4. Maintenance
While the Palibin Lilac is relatively low-maintenance, some practices can ensure its continued health and vigor.
- Pruning: Prune after flowering to maintain shape and encourage new growth. Remove any dead or diseased branches.
- Fertilization: Generally, lilacs do not require heavy fertilization. A balanced fertilizer in early spring can be beneficial, but avoid excessive nitrogen which can promote foliage growth at the expense of flowers.
- Pest and Disease Control: Monitor for common lilac pests like borers or diseases like powdery mildew. Address issues promptly with appropriate organic or chemical treatments if necessary.

5. Troubleshooting
What happens if my plant dies?
DAS Farms ensures a successful transplant for 30 days, provided the included planting instructions are followed with the correct location and water. If your plant experiences issues, please review the planting and care sections carefully. Ensure it is receiving adequate sunlight, proper watering (moderate moisture needs), and is planted in suitable soil within its recommended USDA Hardiness Zones (4-8).
For deciduous plants bought dormant during the winter, they are expected to leaf out in the spring under the same optimal conditions.
