3. Setup

3.1 Driver Installation

  1. Insert the provided driver mini-CD into your computer's CD/DVD drive.
  2. Locate and run the appropriate driver installation file for your operating system. The disk contains different drivers for various compatible systems (e.g., Windows 98SE/2000/ME/XP/Vista/Win 7).
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the driver installation.
  4. For Windows 10 users, the modem may be plug-and-play, automatically installing drivers upon connection. However, if issues arise, manual driver installation from the CD or manufacturer's website may be necessary.

3.2 Physical Connection

  1. Connect the USB plug of the modem to an available USB 2.0 port on your computer (desktop or notebook PC).
  2. Connect one end of the RJ11 cable to the 'LINE' port on the modem.
  3. Connect the other end of the RJ11 cable to your telephone wall jack.
  4. If you wish to connect a telephone handset, connect it to the 'PHONE' port on the modem.

4. Operation

4.1 Fax Functionality

The modem enables your computer to send and receive faxes. To utilize this feature:

  • Ensure the fax function is available and enabled in your computer's operating system. Windows 7 and Windows Vista typically include a built-in fax widget. For Windows XP or earlier versions, you may need to install the fax widget using a Windows system disk.
  • You will need an active telephone line connected to the modem. Please consult your telecommunication service provider regarding any associated fees for fax services.
  • Documents received via fax will be stored in your system's fax widget, allowing you to print only the necessary pages.

4.2 Data Communication

The modem supports data communication with speeds up to 56K for downloads and 48K for uploads. It is compliant with V.90, V.42/V.42bis/MNP5 protocols.

4.3 Voice Communication

While the modem supports voice features, it primarily facilitates data and fax transmission. Voice calls are not directly supported through the modem's data connection. The 'PHONE' port allows for the connection of a standard telephone handset for traditional voice calls on the same line.
