Important Safety Instructions

When using your pressure cooker, basic safety precautions should always be followed:

  • Read all instructions thoroughly.
  • Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
  • Close supervision is necessary when the pressure cooker is used near children.
  • Do not place the pressure cooker in a heated oven.
  • Extreme caution must be used when moving a pressure cooker containing hot liquids.
  • Do not use the pressure cooker for other than its intended use.
  • This appliance cooks under pressure. Improper use may result in scalding injury. Make certain unit is properly closed before operating. See "Closing the Lid" section.
  • Never force open the pressure cooker. Do not open until the unit has cooled and internal pressure has been released. If the handles are difficult to push apart, this indicates that the cooker is still under pressure.
  • Never use the pressure cooker without adding water, as this could severely damage the unit.
  • Do not fill the unit over 2/3 full. When cooking foods that expand during cooking, such as rice or dried vegetables, do not fill the unit over 1/2 full.
  • Ensure the pressure release valve and safety valve are clear before each use.
  • Use only genuine Monix replacement parts.

Setup and First Use

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all packaging materials and inspect the pressure cooker for any damage.
  2. Initial Cleaning: Before first use, wash the pot, lid, and gasket with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely.
  3. Gasket Placement: Ensure the rubber gasket is correctly seated inside the lid rim.

Operating Instructions

1. Filling the Pressure Cooker

  • Add food and liquid to the pressure cooker. Always add at least 1 cup (250ml) of liquid.
  • Do not fill the cooker more than two-thirds full (2/3). For foods that expand (e.g., rice, beans), do not fill more than half full (1/2).

2. Closing the Lid

  1. Align the lid with the pot, ensuring the gasket is properly seated.
  2. Place the lid onto the pot and rotate the lid handle until the locking mechanism engages.
  3. Important: For a secure seal, turn the knob one and a half turns from the point where the bracket is fixed between the fasteners. This ensures proper pressure build-up and safe operation.

3. Cooking Under Pressure

  • Place the pressure cooker on a suitable heat source (compatible with induction, gas, electric stovetops).
  • Heat on high until steam begins to escape steadily from the pressure release valve.
  • Reduce heat to maintain a steady, gentle release of steam. Begin timing your recipe from this point.

4. Releasing Pressure

There are two main methods for releasing pressure:

  • Natural Release: Remove the pressure cooker from the heat source and allow it to cool down naturally. Pressure will gradually decrease. This method is ideal for foods that benefit from continued cooking, like stews and roasts.
  • Quick Release: For faster pressure release, carefully place the pressure cooker under cold running water, avoiding the pressure valve, until the pressure indicator drops. This method is suitable for delicate foods like vegetables.

Never attempt to open the lid until all internal pressure has been released. The pressure indicator must be fully down.

Maintenance and Cleaning

  • After Each Use: Wash the pot and lid with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately to prevent water spots.
  • Gasket Care: Remove the rubber gasket from the lid and wash it separately. Inspect it for cracks or damage. Replace if necessary.
  • Valve Cleaning: Ensure the pressure release valve and safety valve are free from food particles. Use a small brush if needed.
  • Storage: Store the pressure cooker with the lid inverted or slightly ajar to allow air circulation and prevent odors.
  • Replaceable Parts: The knob and handles are replaceable. Contact Monix customer service for replacement parts.
