SPRAYIT SP-33000

SPRAYIT SP-33000 LVLP Gravity Feed Spray Gun Instruction Manual

Model: SP-33000

1. Product Overview

The SPRAYIT SP-33000 LVLP Gravity Feed Spray Gun is designed for various applications including automotive, industrial, marine, and woodworking. Its Low Volume Low Pressure (LVLP) technology requires less air, making it compatible with smaller air compressors. This design reduces overspray, allowing for more controlled application and less material waste, especially when spraying larger surfaces.

2. Safety Information

Always prioritize safety when operating the spray gun. Failure to follow safety guidelines can result in serious injury or property damage.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear appropriate PPE, including a respirator, safety glasses, gloves, and protective clothing, to prevent inhalation of fumes and skin contact with paint or solvents.
  • Ventilation: Use the spray gun in a well-ventilated area to disperse fumes and reduce the risk of fire or explosion.
  • Flammable Materials: Keep the work area free from ignition sources, such as open flames, sparks, and hot surfaces, when working with flammable paints or solvents.
  • Pressurized Liquids: Handle with care due to pressurized liquids and potential chemical exposure. Never point the spray gun at yourself or others.
  • Read Instructions: Before use, thoroughly read and understand all instructions provided in this manual and on the labels of paints and solvents.
  • Disconnect Air: Always disconnect the air supply before cleaning, adjusting, or performing maintenance on the spray gun.

The main components include the gun body, gravity feed cup, fluid needle, fluid nozzle, air cap, and adjustment knobs for fluid, fan pattern, and air pressure.

4. Setup

  1. Initial Cleaning: Before first use, disassemble the spray gun and thoroughly clean all components to remove any manufacturing or shipping grease. This ensures optimal performance and prevents contamination of your paint.
  2. Assemble Components: Reassemble the spray gun, ensuring all parts are securely tightened. Note that the nozzle may be very tight from the factory and might require a wrench for initial loosening.
  3. Connect Air Supply: Attach a clean, dry air supply line to the air inlet of the spray gun. Ensure your air compressor can deliver 3.5 to 3.9 CFM at 30 PSI for optimal performance. For continuous use, a compressor capable of at least 4 ACFM (Actual Cubic Feet per Minute) at the gun is recommended.
  4. Install Air Filter/Moisture Trap: It is highly recommended to install an air filter and moisture trap between the compressor and the spray gun to prevent contaminants and moisture from reaching your paint.
  5. Prepare Paint Material: Mix and thin your paint material according to the manufacturer's instructions. Strain the paint to remove any particles that could clog the gun.
  6. Fill Gravity Feed Cup: Pour the prepared paint material into the 20 oz. (0.6 L) gravity feed cup and securely attach it to the spray gun.

5. Operating Instructions

The SPRAYIT SP-33000 offers precise control over your spray pattern. Follow these steps for effective operation:

  1. Set Air Pressure: Adjust your air compressor regulator to achieve a working pressure between 28-45 PSI at the gun. Do not exceed the maximum pressure of 60 PSI.
  2. Adjust Fluid Control: The fluid control knob regulates the amount of paint flowing through the gun. Turn clockwise to decrease fluid flow and counter-clockwise to increase it.
  3. Adjust Fan Pattern Control: The fan pattern control knob adjusts the shape and width of the spray pattern. Turn to achieve a narrow or wide spray as needed for your application. The fan pattern can range from 7.0 to 10.9 inches.
  4. Test Spray: Before spraying your workpiece, perform a test spray on a piece of scrap material to verify the spray pattern, fluid output, and atomization. Adjust controls as necessary.
  5. Spraying Technique:
    • Hold the gun perpendicular to the surface, maintaining a consistent distance (typically 6-8 inches).
    • Use smooth, even strokes, overlapping each pass by about 50%.
    • Release the trigger at the end of each stroke to avoid excessive paint buildup.
    • The LVLP design provides less overspray and more control, making it suitable for detailed work and reducing material waste.

6. Maintenance

Proper cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the longevity and performance of your spray gun.

  1. Immediate Cleaning: Clean the spray gun immediately after each use. This prevents paint from drying inside the gun, which can cause clogs and damage.
  2. Disassembly: Disassemble the gun, removing the air cap, fluid nozzle, and fluid needle.
  3. Cleaning Solutions: Use appropriate cleaning solutions (e.g., mineral spirits for oil-based paints, water for water-based paints) to thoroughly clean all paint-contacting parts.
  4. Brush Cleaning: Use a small brush to clean the fluid passages and air cap holes. Ensure all paint residue is removed.
  5. Rinse and Dry: Rinse all components with clean solvent or water and allow them to dry completely before reassembly.
  6. Lubrication: Apply a small amount of spray gun lubricant to the fluid needle packing and air valve packing as needed.
  7. Storage: Store the clean and dry spray gun in a protective case or a clean, dry environment.

The stainless steel fluid needle and nozzle are corrosion resistant, contributing to the gun's durability with proper care.

7. Troubleshooting

Refer to this section for common issues and their solutions.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Inconsistent Spray PatternClogged air cap or fluid nozzle; incorrect air pressure; improperly thinned paint.Clean air cap and nozzle; adjust air pressure to 28-45 PSI; ensure paint is thinned correctly.
Excessive OversprayToo much air pressure; gun held too far from surface.Reduce air pressure; hold gun closer to the surface (6-8 inches).
No Paint FlowClogged fluid nozzle or passage; fluid control knob closed; empty paint cup.Clean nozzle and passages; open fluid control knob; refill paint cup.
Paint Leaking from NozzleDamaged fluid needle or nozzle; loose components.Inspect and replace damaged parts; tighten all connections.
Compressor Cannot Keep UpCompressor output (SCFM) is insufficient for the gun's ACFM requirement.Ensure compressor can deliver at least 4 ACFM at the gun for continuous use. For smaller compressors, use in short bursts.
