Setup
1. Unpacking and Inspection
Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Verify that the following items are present:
- Polaroid Procam Instant Camera
- Original Case
- Camera Strap
- Instruction Manual (this document)
- Close-up Focusing Lens
If any items are missing or damaged, please contact customer support.
2. Attaching the Camera Strap
Attach the durable strap to the designated loops on the camera body. Ensure the strap is securely fastened to prevent accidental drops and allow for comfortable one-hand operation.
3. Loading Film
The Polaroid Procam uses instant film packs. Follow these steps to load a new film pack:
- Open the film compartment door on the camera.
- Insert the new film pack, ensuring it is oriented correctly according to the indicators inside the compartment.
- Close the film compartment door firmly until it clicks into place. The dark slide will automatically eject.
- Do not open the film compartment door until the entire film pack is used, as this will expose and ruin the remaining film.
4. Attaching the Close-up Focusing Lens
For subjects closer than the camera's standard focusing range, attach the close-up focusing lens. Align the lens with the camera's main lens and gently twist or snap it into place. Remove it when not needed for standard photography.
Operating the Camera
1. Powering On and Off
Locate the power button, typically on the top or side of the camera. Press it once to turn the camera on. Press and hold it (or press again, depending on the model's specific design) to turn the camera off when not in use to conserve battery life.
2. Taking a Picture
- Frame Your Shot: Look through the viewfinder to compose your image. The wide-angle lens allows for broad scenes.
- Focusing: The integrated sonar rangefinder automatically measures the distance to your subject. Ensure nothing obstructs the sonar sensor.
- Flash: The automatic electronic flash will activate in low-light conditions. Allow a few seconds for the flash to charge if needed.
- Press the Shutter Button: Gently press the shutter button located on the camera body. Hold the camera steady until the picture is ejected.
- Picture Ejection: The camera will automatically eject the exposed film. Allow the picture to develop in a dark place or face down to protect it from light during the initial development phase.
3. Using Exposure Control
The Polaroid Procam features exposure control to adjust the brightness of your photos. Locate the exposure control dial or buttons, usually marked with '+' for lighter and '-' for darker. Adjust these settings based on your lighting conditions and desired effect before taking a picture.
4. Imprinting Date and Time
Utilize the date display buttons to imprint the current date and time directly onto your photographs. Refer to the camera's specific markings near these buttons for setting instructions. This feature is useful for cataloging your memories.
Maintenance
1. Cleaning the Camera
- Lens: Use a soft, lint-free cloth specifically designed for camera lenses to gently wipe the lens surface. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
- Body: Wipe the camera body with a dry, soft cloth. For stubborn dirt, slightly dampen the cloth with water, then wipe dry immediately.
- Rollers: Periodically inspect the film ejection rollers for any residue. Clean them carefully with a damp cloth if necessary, ensuring they are dry before loading new film.
2. Storage
When not in use, store your Polaroid Procam in its original case or a protective bag in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity. Remove batteries if the camera will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
3. Film Handling
Store film packs in a cool, dark place, ideally refrigerated, until ready for use. Allow refrigerated film to reach room temperature before loading into the camera. Dispose of expired film responsibly according to local regulations.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Camera does not power on. | Dead or incorrectly inserted batteries. | Replace batteries with fresh ones, ensuring correct polarity. |
| Film does not eject. | Film pack empty or improperly loaded; obstruction in ejection slot. | Check film counter. If film is present, open and re-seat the film pack. Inspect ejection slot for debris. |
| Photos are too dark/light. | Incorrect exposure control setting; insufficient flash. | Adjust exposure control. Ensure flash is charged and not obstructed. Use flash in low light. |
| Photos are blurry. | Camera movement during exposure; subject too close/far without close-up lens. | Hold camera steady. Use close-up lens for near subjects. Ensure sonar rangefinder is clear. |
| Flash does not fire. | Flash not charged; low battery; flash disabled (if applicable). | Wait for flash to charge indicator. Replace batteries. Ensure flash is set to automatic or forced-on mode. |
