1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient use of your Samsung DV101 Dual View Digital Camera. The Samsung DV101 is designed to capture high-quality still images and videos, featuring a unique front LCD for convenient self-portraits and group shots.

2. Safety Information

Rear Controls:

  • LCD Screen: Main display for viewing images, videos, and menu options.
  • Zoom Lever (T/W): Controls optical and digital zoom. 'T' for Telephoto (zoom in), 'W' for Wide (zoom out).
  • MENU Button: Accesses camera settings and options.
  • MODE Button: Changes shooting modes (e.g., Auto, Smart, Scene).
  • DISP Button: Toggles display information on the LCD.
  • OK Button: Confirms selections in menus.
  • Directional Pad: Navigates menus and provides quick access to:
    • Up: Flash settings
    • Right: Macro mode
    • Down: Self-timer
    • Left: Focus mode
  • Playback Button: Enters playback mode to view captured photos and videos.
  • Fn (Function) Button: Provides quick access to frequently used settings during shooting.

Top Controls:

  • Power Button: Turns the camera on or off.
  • Shutter Button: Press halfway to focus, fully to take a picture.

Front Controls:

  • Front LCD: Small display for self-portraits and group shots.

5. Setup

5.1. Inserting the Battery

  1. Open the battery compartment cover on the bottom of the camera.
  2. Insert the Lithium-Ion battery, ensuring the contacts align correctly.
  3. Close the battery compartment cover until it clicks securely.

5.2. Inserting a Memory Card (SD)

  1. Open the battery/memory card compartment cover.
  2. Insert an SD memory card into the slot with the label facing the correct direction, until it clicks into place.
  3. Close the compartment cover.

5.3. Charging the Battery

  1. Connect the USB cable to the camera's USB port.
  2. Connect the other end of the USB cable to the AC adapter.
  3. Plug the AC adapter into a wall outlet. The charging indicator will illuminate.
  4. Charging is complete when the indicator light changes or turns off.

5.4. Initial Power On and Settings

  1. Press the Power button to turn on the camera.
  2. Follow the on-screen prompts to set the language, date, and time.

6. Operating the Camera

6.1. Turning On/Off

Press the Power button located on the top of the camera to turn it on or off.

6.2. Using the Front LCD (Dual View)

The DV101 features a front LCD screen for easy self-portraits and group shots. To activate the front LCD, press the dedicated button (often labeled with a face icon) or select the appropriate option in the shooting mode menu. The front LCD will display a live preview, allowing you to compose your shot.

6.3. Taking Photos

  1. Select a Shooting Mode: Press the MODE button and use the directional pad to select a mode (e.g., Auto, Smart, Program, Scene).
  2. Compose Your Shot: Frame your subject using the main LCD screen or the front LCD.
  3. Focus: Press the Shutter button halfway down. The camera will automatically focus, and the focus frame will turn green when focus is achieved.
  4. Capture: Press the Shutter button fully down to take the picture.

6.4. Recording Videos

  1. Enter Video Mode: Select the video recording mode via the MODE button.
  2. Start Recording: Press the Shutter button to begin recording. A red indicator will typically appear on the screen.
  3. Stop Recording: Press the Shutter button again to stop recording.

6.5. Zoom Function

Use the Zoom Lever (T/W) on the back of the camera to adjust the focal length. Push towards 'T' to zoom in (telephoto) and towards 'W' to zoom out (wide-angle).

6.6. Flash Settings

In shooting mode, press the Up button on the directional pad to cycle through flash modes (e.g., Auto Flash, Fill-in Flash, Slow Sync, Flash Off, Red-eye Reduction). Select the appropriate mode for your lighting conditions.

6.7. Reviewing Images and Videos

Press the Playback button to enter playback mode. Use the directional pad to navigate through your photos and videos. Use the zoom lever to zoom in on photos or view multiple images at once.

6.8. Connecting to a Computer

To transfer files, connect the camera to your computer using the supplied USB cable. The camera will appear as a removable disk drive, allowing you to copy files to your computer.

6.9. Using Smart Filters and Magic Frames

The DV101 offers creative features like Smart Filters and Magic Frames to enhance your images. Access these options through the MODE or MENU buttons, depending on the selected shooting mode. Experiment with different effects to personalize your photos.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning the Camera: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the camera body. For the lens and LCD screen, use a specialized lens cleaning cloth and solution. Avoid abrasive materials.
  • Battery Care: Store the battery in a cool, dry place when not in use. Do not expose it to extreme heat or cold. Fully charge the battery before extended storage.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the camera in a protective case to prevent dust and scratches. Remove the battery if storing for a long period.

8. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause / Solution
Camera does not turn on. Battery is depleted. Charge the battery. Battery is inserted incorrectly. Reinsert the battery.
Cannot take pictures. Memory card is full. Delete some files or insert a new card. Memory card is not inserted. Insert a memory card. Battery is low. Charge the battery.
