The Panasonic LUMIX G X VARIO 12-35mm F2.8 ASPH. lens is a professional-grade zoom lens designed for Micro Four Thirds systems. It features a constant F2.8 aperture across its 12-35mm focal range (equivalent to 24-70mm on a 35mm camera), making it suitable for various photographic situations from wide-angle landscapes to portraits.

Key Features:

  • Optical Image Stabilizer (POWER O.I.S.): Integrated POWER O.I.S. minimizes blur caused by camera shake, enhancing image clarity in low-light conditions or when shooting handheld.
  • Advanced Lens Construction: Comprised of 14 elements in 9 groups, including 4 aspherical lenses, 1 UED (Ultra Extra-Low Dispersion) lens, and 1 UHR (Ultra High Refractive) lens. This design minimizes chromatic aberration and ensures high resolution and contrast.
  • Nano Surface Coating (NSC): Panasonic's unique Nano Surface Coating technology reduces reflections across the visual range, significantly minimizing glares, flares, and ghosting for clearer images.
  • Durable and Compact Design: The lens features a moisture and dust-sealed metal body and mount, making it suitable for outdoor photography. Its compact and lightweight construction ensures portability.
  • Fast and Silent Autofocus: An inner focus system driven by a stepping motor provides smooth and near-silent focusing, ideal for both still photography and video recording.

Setup

Attaching the Lens:

  1. Ensure both the camera and the lens are powered off.
  2. Remove the rear lens cap from the lens and the body cap from the camera.
  3. Align the mounting mark on the lens with the mounting mark on the camera body.
  4. Insert the lens into the camera mount and turn it clockwise until it clicks into place. Do not force the lens.

Removing the Lens:

  1. Ensure the camera is powered off.
  2. While pressing the lens release button on the camera body, turn the lens counter-clockwise until it stops.
  3. Carefully remove the lens from the camera body.
  4. Attach the rear lens cap to the lens and the body cap to the camera to protect the sensor and lens elements.

Attaching the Lens Hood:

The included lens hood helps to block unwanted light and protect the front element of the lens. Align the red dot on the lens hood with the red dot on the lens, then turn the hood clockwise until it locks into place.

Operating Instructions

Zooming:

Rotate the zoom ring (the wider ring closer to the camera body) to adjust the focal length between 12mm and 35mm. The current focal length is indicated by markings on the lens barrel.

Focusing:

This lens supports autofocus (AF) and manual focus (MF). The focusing mode is typically controlled via your camera body settings. When in AF mode, the lens will automatically focus on your subject. For manual focus, rotate the focus ring (the narrower ring closer to the front of the lens) to achieve sharp focus.

The POWER O.I.S. switch is located on the side of the lens barrel. Set the switch to ON to activate the optical image stabilizer, which helps reduce blur from camera shake. Set it to OFF when using a tripod or when image stabilization is not desired.

Maintenance

Cleaning the Lens:

  • Use a blower brush to remove dust and loose particles from the lens surface.
  • For smudges or fingerprints, use a clean, soft microfiber cloth specifically designed for optical lenses. Apply a small amount of lens cleaning solution to the cloth, not directly to the lens.
  • Wipe gently in a circular motion from the center outwards.
  • Never use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals.

Storage:

  • Store the lens with both front and rear caps attached to protect the elements.
  • Keep the lens in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • If storing for extended periods, consider using a dehumidifying cabinet or silica gel packets to prevent mold growth.

Handling Precautions:

  • Avoid exposing the lens to sudden temperature changes, which can cause condensation.
  • Do not drop or subject the lens to strong impacts.
  • Keep the lens away from strong magnetic fields.
