Product Features
The TICA LZ5000 Cambria Lz Series Spinning Reel incorporates several design elements for enhanced fishing experience:
- Computer Balanced Anti-Twist Rotor: Designed to minimize line twist and ensure smooth operation during retrieve.
- Intelligent Oscillating System: Facilitates even line lay on the spool, which aids in longer and smoother casts.
- 4 Precision Stainless Steel Rust-Resistant Ball Bearings: Provides smooth rotation and durability in various fishing environments.
- Double Anodized Machined Aluminum Spool: Features drilled holes for reduced weight, contributing to the reel's overall balance.
- Instant Anti-Reverse System with One-Way Clutch Roller Bearing: Eliminates back play in the handle, allowing for immediate hook sets.
- Ambidextrous Hand Orientation: The handle can be configured for both left-hand and right-hand retrieve.
- Note: Some models in the Cambria Lz Series (e.g., LZ2550 & LZ3550) feature paddle handles. The LZ5000 model typically uses a standard handle design.
Setup
1. Attaching the Reel to a Fishing Rod
- Loosen the reel seat nut on your fishing rod.
- Slide the reel foot into the reel seat.
- Tighten the reel seat nut securely until the reel is firmly attached and does not wobble.
2. Spooling Fishing Line
The LZ5000 reel comes with a double anodized machined aluminum spool. An additional spool may be included or purchased separately for different line types or capacities.

- Open the bail arm.
- Tie the fishing line to the spool using an arbor knot or a similar secure knot. Trim any excess tag end.
- Close the bail arm.
- Hold the line under slight tension and begin to reel slowly. Ensure the line is spooling evenly.
- Fill the spool to approximately 1/8 inch (3mm) from the rim to prevent line overflow and tangles.
3. Adjusting Handle Orientation
The handle can be switched from left to right side operation:

Figure 3: A close-up view of the TICA LZ5000 spinning reel handle, showing its ergonomic design.
- Unscrew the handle knob on the side opposite to where the handle is currently inserted.
- Pull the handle out from the reel body.
- Insert the handle into the desired side.
- Screw the handle knob back into the opposite side to secure the handle.
Operating Instructions
1. Casting
- Hold the rod and reel comfortably.
- Open the bail arm.
- Grip the fishing line with your index finger.
- Swing the rod forward, releasing the line with your index finger at the appropriate moment to cast your lure or bait.
- As the lure approaches the water, close the bail arm manually or by turning the handle to prepare for retrieve.
2. Retrieving
Turn the handle clockwise (for right-hand retrieve) or counter-clockwise (for left-hand retrieve) to reel in the line. The intelligent oscillating system ensures even line lay.
3. Drag Adjustment
The drag system controls the amount of resistance the line experiences when a fish pulls on it. Adjusting the drag correctly prevents line breakage.

Figure 4: A close-up of the drag adjustment knob on the TICA LZ5000 spinning reel, located at the front of the spool.
- To increase drag tension, turn the drag knob clockwise.
- To decrease drag tension, turn the drag knob counter-clockwise.
- Set the drag to approximately one-third of your line's breaking strength. Test by pulling line directly from the spool.
4. Anti-Reverse Function
The instant anti-reverse system prevents the rotor from turning backward, providing solid hook sets. This feature is always engaged on the LZ5000 model.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance extends the life and performance of your TICA LZ5000 spinning reel.
1. Cleaning After Use
- After each use, especially in saltwater, rinse the reel with fresh water. Do not submerge the reel.
- Wipe the reel dry with a soft cloth.
- Remove the spool and clean any debris or salt residue from under the spool and around the main shaft.
2. Lubrication
- Periodically apply a small amount of reel oil to moving parts such as the handle shaft, bail arm pivot points, and line roller.
- Apply reel grease to the main gear and worm shaft (if accessible) as needed. Avoid over-lubrication.
3. Storage
- Store your reel in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Loosen the drag knob slightly during storage to prevent compression of the drag washers.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Line tangles or loops on spool | Over-spooling, line twist, or improper line lay. | Reduce line amount, check for line twist, ensure even line lay during spooling. |
| Stiff or grinding retrieve | Lack of lubrication, dirt/debris in gears, damaged bearings. | Clean and lubricate the reel. If problem persists, professional service may be required. |
| Drag slips or is inconsistent | Drag washers are dry, worn, or contaminated. | Clean and lightly grease drag washers. Replace if worn. |
| Bail arm does not close properly | Debris in bail mechanism, bent bail wire, or worn spring. | Clean bail mechanism. Inspect for damage. |
