  • Use appropriate tools and avoid over-tightening connections, which can damage threads or components.
  • If you are unsure about any part of the installation process, consult a qualified plumber.

4. Setup and Installation

This adapter is designed for in-line mounting between your handheld shower head and the shower hose.

  1. Turn off Water Supply: Locate the main water shut-off valve for your shower or entire home and turn it off.
  2. Disconnect Handheld Shower: Unscrew your existing handheld shower head from the shower hose. You may need a wrench, but often it can be done by hand.
  3. Apply Thread Seal Tape: Wrap the threads of the shower hose connection with 2-3 layers of the provided thread seal tape in a clockwise direction. This helps prevent leaks.
  4. Connect Adapter to Hose: Screw the 1/2" MPSM male inlet of the Speakman VS-156-PN adapter onto the shower hose. Hand-tighten first, then use a wrench for a final quarter-turn, being careful not to over-tighten.
  5. Apply Thread Seal Tape to Adapter: Wrap the threads of the adapter's 1/2" NPSF female outlet with 2-3 layers of thread seal tape.
  6. Connect Handheld Shower to Adapter: Screw your handheld shower head onto the 1/2" NPSF female outlet of the adapter. Hand-tighten, then use a wrench for a final quarter-turn.
  7. Restore Water Supply: Slowly turn the main water supply back on and check for any leaks. If leaks occur, gently tighten the connections further or reapply thread seal tape.

5. Operating Instructions

The Speakman VS-156-PN adapter features a simple toggle button for controlling water flow.

  • Full Flow: When the button is in its default position, water will flow through your handheld shower head at its full capacity (up to 2.5 GPM, depending on your shower head).
  • Pause/Trickle Mode: Press the toggle button to engage the pause/trickle mode. This will significantly reduce the water flow to a trickle, allowing you to conserve water while lathering, shaving, or performing other tasks without completely shutting off the water and losing your desired temperature.
  • Return to Full Flow: Press the toggle button again to disengage the pause/trickle mode and return to full water flow.

Note: This adapter provides a trickle function for water conservation and does not completely stop the water flow.

6. Maintenance

To maintain the appearance and functionality of your Speakman VS-156-PN adapter:

  • Cleaning: Clean the polished nickel finish regularly with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals, or scouring pads, as these can damage the finish.
  • Hard Water Deposits: For hard water spots, use a solution of mild soap and water or a vinegar-based cleaner specifically designed for bathroom fixtures. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning.
  • Inspection: Periodically check connections for any signs of leaks or wear.
