This manual provides detailed instructions for the setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your Onkyo TA-RW313 Dual Cassette Deck. This stereo cassette tape deck features Auto Reverse, 2-Motor Computer Control, and Dolby B-C NR HX Pro for enhanced audio quality and convenience. Setup
1. Unpacking and Placement
- Carefully remove the unit from its packaging.
- Place the cassette deck on a stable, level surface away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and excessive dust or vibration. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit.
2. Audio Connections
Connect the TA-RW313 to your audio system using RCA audio cables. The rear panel of the unit provides both Line In and Line Out connections.
- Connect the LINE OUT (REC/PLAY) jacks on the TA-RW313 to an available LINE IN or TAPE IN input on your amplifier or receiver.
- If you plan to record from an external source, connect the LINE IN (REC) jacks on the TA-RW313 to the LINE OUT or TAPE OUT jacks of your amplifier or receiver.

3. Power Connection
Plug the AC power cord into a standard AC120V, 60Hz wall outlet. The unit consumes 34W of power during operation.
Operating the Cassette Deck
1. Loading and Unloading Tapes
- Press the EJECT button for either Deck A or Deck B to open the cassette compartment.
- Insert a cassette tape with the open edge facing down and the side to be played/recorded facing forward. Gently close the compartment until it clicks.
- To unload, press EJECT again.

2. Playback
- Select the desired deck (Deck A or Deck B).
- Press the PLAY button (►) to start playback.
- Use FAST FORWARD (►►) or REWIND (◄◄) to navigate the tape.
- Press STOP (■) to halt playback.
- The AUTO REVERSE function allows continuous playback by automatically flipping the tape direction at the end of a side.
3. Recording
Recording is primarily performed on Deck B. Deck A is typically for playback or source material during dubbing.
- Insert a recordable cassette into Deck B.
- Select the input source (e.g., Line In from your receiver).
- Adjust the INPUT LEVEL knob to set the recording volume. Monitor the PEAK LEVEL INDICATOR to prevent distortion.
- Press the REC/PAUSE button (●/▮▮) to enter record-pause mode. The record indicator will light up.
- Press PLAY (►) on Deck B to begin recording.
- To stop recording, press STOP (■).
4. Dubbing (Tape Copying)
The TA-RW313 allows you to copy tapes from Deck A to Deck B.
- Insert the source tape into Deck A and a recordable blank tape into Deck B.
- Select the desired dubbing speed: NORMAL or HIGH SPEED DUBBING.
- Press the DUBBING button. Deck A will start playing and Deck B will start recording simultaneously.
- Press STOP (■) to end the dubbing process.
5. Noise Reduction (Dolby B-C NR HX Pro)
The unit features Dolby B-C Noise Reduction and HX Pro headroom extension for improved sound quality, especially during recording and playback of tapes encoded with Dolby NR.
- Use the DOLBY NR B/OFF/C switch to select the appropriate noise reduction setting (B, C, or Off) based on how the tape was recorded or for recording new tapes.
- HX Pro is automatically engaged during recording to optimize high-frequency response.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your cassette deck.
1. Cleaning Tape Heads and Pinch Rollers
- After every 10-20 hours of use, clean the tape heads, pinch rollers, and capstans.
- Use a cotton swab lightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol. Gently wipe the surfaces until clean.
- Allow components to dry completely before operating the deck.
2. Demagnetizing
- Periodically demagnetize the tape heads (e.g., every 50-100 hours of use) using a cassette head demagnetizer.
- Follow the instructions provided with your demagnetizer carefully.
3. General Care
- Keep the unit free from dust by wiping it with a soft, dry cloth.
- Avoid placing heavy objects on top of the deck.
- Do not expose the unit to extreme temperatures or humidity.
