Installation (Setup)
Follow these steps to install your new thermostat:
- Turn Off Power: Before beginning, turn off the power to your heating and cooling system at the circuit breaker or fuse box.
- Remove Old Thermostat: Carefully remove your old thermostat from the wall.
- Label Wires: As you disconnect each wire, use the provided labels (if any) or masking tape to clearly mark each wire with the letter corresponding to its terminal on the old thermostat (e.g., R, G, Y, W, C). This step is crucial for correct wiring.
- Mount Wall Plate: Position the new thermostat's wall plate on the wall. Use the included screws and anchors to secure it. Ensure it is level for aesthetic purposes.
- Connect Wires: Connect the labeled wires to the corresponding terminals on the new wall plate. Refer to the wiring diagram in your specific system's manual if needed. Ensure connections are tight.
- Install Batteries: Insert two fresh AAA alkaline batteries into the battery compartment of the thermostat.
- Attach Thermostat: Align the thermostat with the wall plate and gently push until it snaps securely into place.
- Restore Power: Turn the power back on to your heating and cooling system at the circuit breaker or fuse box.
- Configure Blower Switch: On the back of the thermostat unit, locate the small switch labeled 'Gas' or 'Electric'. Set this switch according to your furnace type. 'Gas' is for gas or oil furnaces, 'Electric' is for electric furnaces or heat pumps.
Operating Instructions
Basic Controls
- Set Button: Used to enter programming mode and confirm selections.
- Hold Button: Used to temporarily or permanently hold the current temperature.
- Run Button: Used to exit programming mode and resume the programmed schedule.
- Up/Down Arrows: Used to adjust temperature settings, time, and navigate programming options.
- System Switch (Heat/Off/Cool): Located at the bottom of the thermostat, select your desired operating mode.
- Fan Switch (Auto/On): Located at the bottom of the thermostat, select fan operation. 'Auto' runs the fan only when heating or cooling is active. 'On' runs the fan continuously.
Setting Time and Day
- Press the Set button once. The time will flash.
- Use the Up/Down Arrows to adjust the hour. Press Set.
- Use the Up/Down Arrows to adjust the minutes. Press Set.
- Use the Up/Down Arrows to adjust the day of the week. Press Set to save and exit, or Run to exit without saving.
Programming the 5-2 Day Schedule
This thermostat allows for one program for weekdays (Monday-Friday) and a separate program for weekends (Saturday-Sunday), each with four periods per day (Wake, Leave, Return, Sleep).
- Press the Set button repeatedly until 'Set Program' appears on the display. The weekday (Mon-Fri) 'Wake' period will be displayed.
- Wake Period: Use the Up/Down Arrows to set the desired wake time, then press Set. Use the Up/Down Arrows to set the desired temperature for the wake period, then press Set.
- Leave Period: Repeat the process for the 'Leave' time and temperature, then press Set.
- Return Period: Repeat the process for the 'Return' time and temperature, then press Set.
- Sleep Period: Repeat the process for the 'Sleep' time and temperature, then press Set.
- The thermostat will now display the weekend (Sat-Sun) 'Wake' period. Repeat steps 2-5 for the weekend schedule.
- After setting the weekend 'Sleep' period, press Set to save all changes and exit programming, or press Run to exit without saving the last changes.
Using the Hold Function
The Hold function allows you to temporarily or permanently override the programmed schedule.
- Temporary Hold: While in normal operation, use the Up/Down Arrows to adjust the temperature. The new temperature will be held until the next programmed period begins. 'Temporary Hold' will be displayed.
- Permanent Hold: Press the Hold button. 'Hold' will appear on the display. Use the Up/Down Arrows to set the desired temperature. This temperature will be maintained indefinitely until you press the Run button to resume the program.
Backlight
The display backlight activates for approximately 8 seconds when any button is pressed, improving visibility in low-light conditions.
Maintenance
Battery Replacement
The thermostat requires two AAA alkaline batteries. When the battery icon appears on the display, replace the batteries immediately to ensure continuous operation. The thermostat retains its programming for a short period during battery replacement.
- Remove the thermostat from the wall plate by gently pulling it forward.
- Open the battery compartment and remove the old batteries.
- Insert two new AAA alkaline batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-).
- Snap the thermostat back onto the wall plate.
Cleaning
Clean the thermostat's exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
