1. Introduction
This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and effective operation of your Omron HEM-7200 Blood Pressure Monitor. Please read all instructions thoroughly before use and retain this manual for future reference. The Omron HEM-7200 is designed for home use to measure systolic and diastolic blood pressure and pulse rate. It features advanced averaging technology, irregular heartbeat detection, and body movement detection for accurate readings.

Figure 1: The Omron HEM-7200 Blood Pressure Monitor. This image shows the main unit with its digital LCD display showing blood pressure readings (systolic 118 mmHg, diastolic 78 mmHg) and pulse rate (70 bpm). An arm cuff is visible to the left of the main unit.
2. What's in the Box
Verify that all components are present in the package:
- Main unit (Omron HEM-7200 Blood Pressure Monitor)
- Medium size arm cuff (fits arm circumference 22-32 cm)
- Storage case
- Instruction manual
- 4 AA batteries
An AC adapter (6V....4W) is optional and not included.
3. Setup
- Install Batteries: Open the battery compartment on the back of the main unit. Insert the 4 AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-). Close the compartment cover.
- Attach Arm Cuff: Connect the air plug of the arm cuff to the air jack on the left side of the main unit. Ensure a secure connection.
- Set Date and Time: Refer to the detailed instructions in the full manual for setting the date and time, which is important for accurate memory logging.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Taking a Measurement
- Prepare for Measurement: Sit comfortably with your back supported and feet flat on the floor. Rest your arm on a table so the cuff is at heart level. Avoid talking or moving during measurement.
- Apply the Arm Cuff: Wrap the cuff firmly around your upper arm, approximately 1-2 cm above your elbow. Ensure the air tube is centered on the inside of your arm and points towards your hand. The cuff should fit an arm circumference of 22-32 cm.
- Start Measurement: Press the START/STOP button. The cuff will begin to inflate automatically.
- Read Results: Once the measurement is complete (approximately 45 seconds), your systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, and pulse rate will be displayed on the LCD screen.
- Power Off: Press the START/STOP button again to turn off the unit, or it will automatically power off after a period of inactivity.
4.2 Advanced Features
- Advanced Averaging Technology: The monitor automatically averages the last 3 readings taken within a 10-minute period to provide a more accurate representation of your blood pressure.
- Irregular Heartbeat Indicator: If an irregular heartbeat is detected during measurement, a specific symbol will appear on the display. If this symbol appears frequently, consult your doctor.
- Blood Pressure Level Indicator: The device includes a hypertension indicator (a digital heart symbol) that blinks continuously if your blood pressure level is outside the standard range (above 135 mmHg systolic or 85 mmHg diastolic).
- Body Movement Detection: The monitor detects body movement during measurement, which can affect accuracy. If movement is detected, the device will indicate this, prompting a re-measurement if necessary.
- Memory Function: The HEM-7200 stores up to 60 sets of readings with the date and time. To review past readings, use the memory buttons on the unit.
5. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the main unit and cuff with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the unit in water.
- Storage: Store the monitor and cuff in the provided storage case in a clean, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Battery Replacement: Replace all four AA batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display.
- Cuff Care: Ensure the cuff is not excessively creased or damaged. The cuff is designed for repeated use but should be inspected periodically.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Omron HEM-7200, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No display when powered on | Batteries are dead or incorrectly installed. | Replace all batteries with new ones, ensuring correct polarity. |
| Cuff does not inflate or inflates too little | Air plug is not securely connected; air leakage from cuff. | Ensure the air plug is fully inserted. Check cuff for damage. |
| Inaccurate or inconsistent readings | Incorrect cuff placement; body movement during measurement; talking during measurement; incorrect posture. | Re-read "4.1 Taking a Measurement" and ensure proper technique. Avoid movement and talking. Ensure cuff is at heart level. |
| Irregular Heartbeat Symbol appears frequently | Indicates frequent irregular heartbeats. | Consult your doctor for medical advice. |
If the problem persists after attempting these solutions, contact Omron customer support.

8. Important Health Information
Understanding your blood pressure and monitoring it regularly is crucial for health management.
8.1 Why Measure Blood Pressure at Home?
- White-coat Hypertension: Readings may be high in a doctor's office but lower at home due to anxiety.
- Masked Hypertension: Readings may be low in a doctor's office but higher at home.
- Morning Hypertension: Blood pressure can be higher in the morning.
- Home monitoring allows for measurements in a relaxed state, providing a more accurate picture over time.
8.2 Understanding High Blood Pressure
Normal blood pressure (normotension) is generally defined as less than 130 mmHg systolic and less than 85 mmHg diastolic. Elevated blood pressure places increased strain on blood vessels, potentially leading to damage. This can result in serious conditions such as stroke (internal bleeding in the brain) or ischemic heart disease (e.g., heart attack, angina) due to increased workload on the heart. Maintaining blood pressure within a normal range is vital for preventing these health risks.
8.3 Helpful Blood Pressure Reminders
- Regularly have your blood pressure checked by a healthcare professional.
- Follow your doctor's advice regarding diet and lifestyle changes if you have high blood pressure.
- If medication is prescribed, take it regularly as directed. Report any new symptoms to your doctor.
- Measure and record your blood pressure at home consistently. This data is valuable for your doctor in evaluating your condition and treatment effectiveness.
- Collaborate with your healthcare team to manage your blood pressure effectively.
