Setup
Unpacking and Initial Installation
- Carefully remove the printer from its packaging.
- Remove all protective tapes and packing materials from the exterior and interior of the printer.
- Install the ink cartridges into their designated slots.
- Load paper into the paper tray.
- Connect the power cord and turn on the printer.
Connecting to a Network
The MFC-J5910DW supports both wireless (802.11b/g/n) and wired Ethernet connections.
- Wireless Setup: Use the 1.9" Touch Screen Color LCD Display to navigate to the network settings. Select your wireless network (SSID) and enter the network key (password).
- Wired Ethernet Setup: Connect an Ethernet cable from your router or network hub to the Ethernet port on the back of the printer. The printer will automatically configure its network settings.
Software Installation
Insert the installation CD-ROM into your computer's drive or download the latest drivers and software from the official Brother support website. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
Operating the Printer
The 1.9" Touch Screen Color LCD Display and Touch Panel Control provide interactive menu navigation for all functions.
Printing

Ink Cartridge Replacement
The MFC-J5910DW uses Super High Yield (XXL Series) replacement ink cartridges. When an ink cartridge is low or empty, a message will appear on the LCD display.
- Open the ink cartridge cover.
- Press the release lever for the cartridge you wish to replace and remove it.
- Unpack the new ink cartridge and insert it firmly into its slot until it clicks into place.
- Close the ink cartridge cover.
Cleaning the Printer
- Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the printer with a soft, lint-free cloth.
- Scanner Glass: Clean the scanner glass with a soft, dry cloth to ensure clear scans and copies.
- Print Head: If print quality issues occur (e.g., streaky prints), perform a print head cleaning cycle through the printer's maintenance menu on the LCD display.
