Setup

1. Powering the Device

The SL-451 can be powered by batteries or an external power adapter.

Battery Installation:

Operating Instructions

1. Basic Measurement

  1. Press the POWER button to turn on the device.
  2. The display will show the current sound level in decibels (dB).
  3. Weighting (A/C): Use the A/C button to switch between A-weighting (for general noise measurement, mimicking human ear response) and C-weighting (for measuring peak sound pressure levels).
  4. Response Time (FAST/SLOW): Use the FAST/SLOW button to select the desired response time. Fast response is suitable for rapidly changing noise, while slow response is for more stable noise levels.
  5. Range Selection: The device features an automatic range selection from 30 to 130 dB. Manual range adjustment may also be available depending on the model's specific firmware.
  6. MAX/MIN Hold: Press the MAX/MIN button to display the maximum or minimum sound level recorded during a measurement session. Press again to cycle through modes or exit.
  7. Data Hold: Press the HOLD button to freeze the current reading on the display. Press again to release.

2. Data Logging

The SL-451 can record up to 32,000 measurements.

  1. Ensure the device is powered on.
  2. Press the REC button to start data logging. The "REC" indicator will appear on the display.
  3. Press the REC button again to stop logging.
  4. To retrieve logged data, connect the device to a PC using the USB cable and open the installed software.
  5. Follow the software instructions to download, view, and analyze the recorded measurements. The software supports analysis according to standards like DIN 15905-5.

3. Calibration

For accurate measurements, periodic calibration is recommended. The device is calibratable.
