Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your Melitta Optima Timer Coffee Machine. Please read these instructions carefully before first use and keep them for future reference.

Safety Instructions
- Always unplug the appliance from the power outlet before cleaning or when not in use.
- Do not immerse the appliance, cord, or plug in water or other liquids.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Do not operate the appliance if the cord or plug is damaged, or if the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner.
- Use only Melitta 102 coffee filters or compatible reusable filters.

Setup
- Unpacking: Carefully remove all packaging materials. Retain packaging for future transport or storage.
- Initial Cleaning: Before first use, clean all removable parts (water tank, filter holder, glass jug) with warm water and a mild detergent. Wipe the main unit with a damp cloth.
- First Brew Cycle: Fill the water tank to the MAX level with fresh cold water. Place an empty paper filter (size 102) or reusable filter in the filter holder. Run a full brewing cycle without coffee to rinse the internal components. Discard the water.
- Water Hardness Test: Use the provided test strip to determine your water hardness. This information is crucial for setting up the descaling program. Refer to the "Maintenance" section for details on adjusting the descaling program based on water hardness.

Operating Instructions
Brewing Coffee
- Fill Water Tank: Remove the water tank and fill it with fresh, cold water up to the desired level (marked for 2-8 cups). Reinsert the water tank securely.
- Insert Filter: Swing out the filter holder. Place a Melitta 102 paper filter or a compatible reusable filter into the holder.
- Add Coffee Grounds: Add the desired amount of ground coffee into the filter. A general guideline is one level tablespoon per cup, but adjust to your taste.
- Close Filter Holder: Swing the filter holder back into place until it clicks.
- Place Jug: Ensure the glass jug is correctly positioned on the warming plate.
- Start Brewing: Press the ON/OFF button. The indicator light will illuminate, and the brewing process will begin.
- Automatic Shut-off: The machine will automatically shut off approximately 2 hours after brewing is complete to save energy.
Using the Timer Function
The timer function allows you to program the machine to start brewing at a specific time.
- Set Current Time: With the machine plugged in, use the H (Hour) and MIN (Minute) buttons on the control panel to set the current time.
- Prepare for Brewing: Follow steps 1-5 from the "Brewing Coffee" section (fill water, add filter, add coffee, close filter holder, place jug).
- Set Timer: Press and hold the TIMER button until the display flashes. Use the H and MIN buttons to set the desired start time.
- Activate Timer: Press the TIMER button again briefly. The timer indicator light will illuminate, confirming the timer is set. The machine will start brewing at the programmed time.

Maintenance
Daily Cleaning
- After each use, discard the used coffee filter and grounds.
- Wash the glass jug and its lid, and the removable filter holder with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry. These parts are generally dishwasher safe (check product manual for specific confirmation).
- Wipe the exterior of the coffee machine with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
Descaling Program
Regular descaling is essential to maintain optimal performance and extend the lifespan of your coffee machine. The machine features a descaling program and an indicator light.
- Set Water Hardness: Based on the water hardness test performed during setup, adjust the machine's descaling interval. Consult the full product manual for specific instructions on how to set the water hardness level on your device. This setting determines when the CALC indicator light will illuminate.
- When to Descale: The CALC indicator light will illuminate when descaling is required.
- Descaling Process:
- Fill the water tank with a descaling solution according to the descaler manufacturer's instructions.
- Place the empty glass jug on the warming plate.
- Press and hold the CALC button for approximately 3 seconds to start the descaling program. The CALC light will flash during the process.
- The machine will run through a specific descaling cycle. Once complete, the CALC light will turn off.
- Run two full cycles with fresh water to rinse the machine thoroughly after descaling.
Troubleshooting
