4. Installation and Usage Guidelines
4.1. General Installation
Ensure the device is powered off before installing the battery. Insert the battery according to the polarity markings (+ and -) in the battery compartment. Incorrect installation can damage the device or the battery.
4.2. Voltage Compatibility
Important: The Tadiran TL-5903 is a 3.6V lithium battery. It is not interchangeable with standard 1.5V alkaline batteries. Using this battery in devices designed for 1.5V batteries can cause severe damage to the device. Always verify the voltage requirements of your device before installation.
4.3. Current Discharge
This battery is best suited for applications requiring a small current discharge. If your device requires a high current discharge, this battery may not be able to support it effectively, potentially leading to suboptimal performance or reduced lifespan.
5. Troubleshooting and Activation
Lithium batteries, especially those designed for long-term, low-drain applications, can exhibit a 'dormant' characteristic when idle for a period. This is a normal protective state.
Video 1: Lithium Battery Information. This video explains common questions about lithium batteries, including voltage differences with alkaline batteries, suitability for small current discharge, battery lifespan, and how to activate a dormant battery.
5.1. Battery Appears 'Dead' or Shows Low Voltage
If your new battery shows a voltage lower than 3.6V or appears inactive, it might be in a dormant state. This is not an indication of a faulty or used battery. All new products are tested and shipped with a date code to ensure freshness.
To activate a dormant battery:
- Install the battery into your device.
- Allow the device to discharge the battery with a small current for a few minutes. This process 'wakes up' the battery.
Our technicians test the open and loading voltages before shipment. If these don't meet the correct values, batteries are activated on a special machine to ensure readiness for use.
5.2. Battery Capacity Less Than 100%
Similar to the low voltage issue, a battery showing less than 100% capacity upon initial measurement might be due to its dormant state. Activation as described above should resolve this.
If your battery is still not activated after following these instructions, please contact customer support immediately.
6. Important Safety Information
Lithium batteries are powerful and require careful handling to prevent injury or damage.
- Do Not Recharge: This is a non-rechargeable battery. Attempting to recharge it can lead to overheating, leakage, fire, or explosion.
- Do Not Disassemble: Do not open, puncture, or disassemble the battery.
- Avoid Short Circuits: Do not short-circuit the battery terminals.
- Extreme Temperatures: Do not expose the battery to extreme heat (above 85°C) or cold (below -55°C), fire, or water.
- Proper Disposal: Dispose of used batteries according to local regulations. Do not dispose of them in household waste.
- Keep Away from Children: Store batteries out of reach of children and pets.
- Damaged Batteries: Do not use batteries that appear damaged, swollen, or leaking.
