Product Overview

The TrueCut 6.5" x 6.5" Quilting Ruler is engineered from an injection-molded thermoplastic, offering enhanced chip resistance, flexibility, and durability compared to traditional acrylic rulers. Its design addresses common cutting challenges by integrating a patented track and guide system.

Key Features:

  • Durable Material: Constructed from chip-resistant, flexible thermoplastic.
  • Precise Measurements: Clearly marked 1/8-inch increments, with 1/4", 1/2", and 3/4" labels for quick reference.
  • Dual-Direction Numbering: Numbers run left-to-right and right-to-left, eliminating the need to flip the ruler.
  • Integrated Track and Guide System: A raised edge, referred to as the "Ruler Track," interlocks with a compatible TrueCut rotary cutter's "Cutter Guide" for consistently straight cuts.
  • 45-Degree Angle Line: Includes inch marks along the 45-degree line for accurate squaring of blocks and various shapes.

Setup

The TrueCut Quilting Ruler is ready for use directly out of its packaging. No assembly is required.

Initial Inspection:

  1. Carefully remove the ruler from its packaging.
  2. Inspect the ruler for any visible damage or manufacturing defects. If any issues are found, please contact customer support.
  3. Ensure the measurement markings are clear and legible.

Optional Enhancement: For additional grip and to further prevent fabric slippage, consider applying True Grips (sold separately) to the underside of the ruler. These adhesive pads can be placed over the integrated holes on the ruler's surface.

Operating Instructions

Follow these steps for accurate and efficient fabric cutting with your TrueCut ruler.

1. Preparing Your Fabric:

  • Ensure your fabric is pressed flat and free of wrinkles.
  • Place the fabric on a self-healing cutting mat.

2. Positioning the Ruler:

  • Align the desired measurement markings on the ruler with the edge of your fabric or the line you wish to cut.
  • Utilize the dual-direction numbering to measure from either left-to-right or right-to-left without reorienting the ruler.
  • For squaring blocks, align the 45-degree angle line with a diagonal seam or corner of your fabric block.

3. Using the Track and Guide System (with TrueCut Rotary Cutter):

  • Position your TrueCut rotary cutter so its "Cutter Guide" interlocks with the "Ruler Track" (raised edge) of the TrueCut ruler.
  • Apply firm, even pressure to the ruler to hold the fabric securely in place.
  • Glide the rotary cutter along the ruler track, maintaining consistent contact between the cutter guide and the ruler track. This system prevents the cutter from veering away from the ruler's edge, ensuring a straight cut.

4. General Cutting Tips:

  • Always use a sharp rotary blade for clean cuts.
  • Keep your fingers away from the cutting path. The raised edge of the ruler provides an additional safety barrier.
  • For multiple layers of fabric, ensure they are perfectly aligned and held firmly to prevent shifting.

Maintenance

Proper care will extend the life and maintain the clarity of your TrueCut ruler.

Cleaning:

  • Wipe the ruler clean with a soft, damp cloth after each use to remove fabric fibers or dust.
  • For stubborn marks, use a mild soap solution and rinse thoroughly.
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the ruler's surface or markings.
  • Dry completely with a soft, lint-free cloth.

Storage:

  • Store the ruler flat to prevent warping.
  • Keep it away from direct sunlight or extreme temperatures, which can affect the material's integrity.
  • Store in a clean, dry environment.

Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter during use.

Issue: Ruler or Fabric Slipping During Cutting

  • Solution 1: Ensure you are applying firm, even pressure across the entire surface of the ruler while cutting.
  • Solution 2: Verify that the fabric is laid flat and smooth on the cutting mat.
  • Solution 3: Consider adding True Grips (sold separately) to the underside of your ruler. These non-slip pads enhance stability.

Issue: Cuts are Not Straight or Veer Away from the Ruler

  • Solution 1: Confirm you are using a TrueCut rotary cutter and that its "Cutter Guide" is properly interlocked with the ruler's "Ruler Track."
  • Solution 2: Maintain consistent contact between the cutter guide and the ruler track throughout the entire cutting motion.
  • Solution 3: Check your rotary blade for dullness. A dull blade can cause the cutter to drag or skip, leading to inaccurate cuts.
