Setup and Initial Operation

Package Contents

Before beginning, ensure all items are present in your package:

Battery Installation and Charging

  1. Align the battery pack with the battery compartment on the rear of the transceiver.
  2. Slide the battery pack into place until it clicks securely.
  3. Connect the battery charger to a power outlet and then to the charging port on the transceiver or charging cradle.
  4. Allow the battery to fully charge before first use. A full charge typically takes approximately 2.5 hours.
  5. Note: The charging indicator light may not always illuminate green when fully charged. Refer to the radio's display for charge status if available.

Antenna Attachment

Screw the supplied antenna clockwise onto the antenna connector on the top of the transceiver until it is finger-tight. Do not overtighten.

Operating Instructions

Power On/Off

To power on the transceiver, rotate the VOL/PWR knob clockwise. To power off, rotate it counter-clockwise until it clicks.

Volume Adjustment

Adjust the audio output level by rotating the VOL/PWR knob.

Frequency Selection

Use the main dial or the keypad to enter desired frequencies. The FT-60R supports both VFO (Variable Frequency Oscillator) mode for direct frequency entry and Memory mode for recalling stored channels.

  • VFO Mode: Press the V/M key to switch to VFO mode. Enter the frequency directly using the numeric keypad.
  • Memory Mode: Press the V/M key to switch to Memory mode. Use the main dial or the UP/DOWN arrow keys to scroll through stored memory channels.

Transmitting

To transmit, press and hold the PTT (Push-To-Talk) button located on the side of the transceiver. Speak clearly into the microphone. Release the PTT button to receive.

The FT-60R offers selectable transmit power levels (Low, Mid, High) up to 5 Watts. Adjust the transmit power using the TX PO function on the keypad (key 3).

Maintenance

Troubleshooting
