Safety Information

Always observe the following safety precautions:

  • Ensure all power is disconnected from the amplifier or speaker system before installation or maintenance.
  • Use appropriate tools and personal protective equipment (PPE) during installation.
  • Do not exceed the specified power handling capabilities of the driver.
  • Avoid exposing the driver to extreme temperatures or moisture.
  • Refer to a qualified technician for any repairs beyond basic installation.

Setup and Installation

The Peavey RX22 is designed for integration into various speaker cabinets. Proper installation is crucial for optimal performance.

Mounting the Driver

  1. Preparation: Ensure the speaker cabinet's horn flare or waveguide has a compatible mounting throat parameter of 0.875 inches (22 mm).
  2. Positioning: Carefully align the driver with the mounting holes on the horn flare.
  3. Securing: Use appropriate screws or bolts to firmly attach the driver to the horn. Do not overtighten, as this may damage the driver housing.

Wiring Connections

  • Connect the positive (+) terminal of the RX22 driver to the positive output of your crossover network's high-frequency section.
  • Connect the negative (-) terminal of the RX22 driver to the negative output of your crossover network's high-frequency section.
  • Ensure all connections are secure and properly insulated to prevent short circuits.

Note: The RX22 has a nominal impedance of 8 Ohms. Verify compatibility with your amplifier and crossover network.

Operating Instructions

Once installed, the RX22 driver operates as part of your speaker system. Follow these guidelines for proper operation:

  • Crossover Settings: Use a recommended crossover frequency of 1200 Hz at 12 dB/Octave. The lowest recommended crossover is 500 Hz at 12 dB/Octave. Operating below the recommended crossover frequency can lead to driver damage.
  • Power Handling: Adhere to the power capacity specifications: 70 W continuous (pink noise, 1000 Hz to 20 kHz) or 60 W continuous (pink noise, 500 Hz to 20 kHz). Avoid sustained operation at or above peak power levels.
  • Monitoring: Listen for any signs of distortion or stress from the driver. Reduce input power immediately if distortion is heard.

Maintenance

The Peavey RX22 driver requires minimal maintenance to ensure long-term performance.

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the exterior of the driver with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect the driver for any visible damage to the diaphragm or connections.
  • Storage: If storing the driver separately, keep it in a dry, temperature-controlled environment, away from direct sunlight and dust.

Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your RX22 driver, consult the following table:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No sound from driverLoose or incorrect wiring; damaged diaphragm; amplifier/crossover issueCheck all connections; inspect diaphragm for tears (if accessible); test amplifier/crossover with another speaker.
Distorted soundOverpowering the driver; incorrect crossover setting; damaged diaphragmReduce input power; verify crossover settings; inspect diaphragm.
Intermittent soundLoose connection; faulty cableCheck and secure all wiring; replace cables if necessary.

If troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, contact Peavey customer support or a qualified service technician.
